Lack of lecture skills, you'll feel sleepy in class all the time. Sometimes when he asks questions in class, but on one seems to know the answer,or give him good enouth answers,he'll answer it by himself! He gives very specific, simple, easy to understand examples of all the philosophic terms, but totally not helpfulwhen doing the 3 take-home exams. The readings he assigns are usually too hard to understand, (even for the TAs~)and normally are something related to political issues in which I'm not interested. He doesn't use the standard critical thinking textbook, instead,he uses Plato/Socrates, a pamphlet he writes about higher education in CA,and a reader book which invloved all kinds of race or political issues. They're cheap, but not really helpful in your real life. I always think that this class should be something that realted to our real life so that it can help us to some do critical thinkings when we face our own critical life issues, rather than understanding some philosophic definitions which won't help us at all. By the way, he's a nice person, great personality. You can argue with him in class without worrying about being taken credits off. In fact, a great class participation will definitely raise your grade! If you have to take this class for GE, take Mutti's class. I should listen to my friends~

His class provides you with a great learning experience. He is a great instructor and is very approacheable and open minded. I enjoyed his class very much. It is not an easy route, buts its worth it. Actually, the workload he assigns is fair. It is not little but not too much either.

The reading is not too difficult. I wish I had studied harder for this class. It was not that I did not enjoy the contents of the course, but because I had a most horrible philosophy proffessor for two other classes that left me with a very gloomy outlook. But aside from that tangent, this class built upon a foundation of ethical utilitarianism which I found interesting. The midterm was essay form.

Dr. Anton knows alot. He's been teaching at SFSU for quite a while which has shaped him into a very able professor. His classes are difficult but the quality of his thought and the classes themselves are very worth the work. He is a very approachable person, unlike Kent Bach and others. He is also very laid back about people's opinions, that is he does not have a problem with students disagreeing with his political and philosophical views. Take any of his classes, it is really worth it. By the by, he just took over the Department Chair for Philosophy, which is a very nice change from Don Provence, who was not very approachable, and is quite particular about who is a philosopher and who isn't.
