Cheri is completely fabulous! Anyone who has to take their math requirement should definitely take this class. I HATE the subject and she was the first person who ever made sense out of statistics. She's so patient (with some limitations) and is willing to help out anyone. CHERI'S THE BEST!!

Cheri is an amazing professor! I have taken many research-based courses throughout my academic career, but ISED 797 taught by Dr. Araki has been by far the BEST! I learned so much from her! Her teaching style is excellent! She is very approachable, she has a very good sense of humor, and she provides a lot of good examples to help students understand the course material.

Reasons why Cheri Araki is the shiznick: 1. OPTIONAL HOMEWORK 2. OPEN BOOK AND OPEN NOTE TESTS,(ONLY THREE OR FOUR) 3. NO CUMULATIVE FINAL, NO MIDTERM 4. MAGICIAN AND PARTY ON DAY OF FINAL, FOR REAL!
If that's not enough, Cheri has a great sense of humor, is very knowledgable in her field, sympathetic to math illiterates, and a wonderful person.

Cheri Araki is an excellent instructor for statistics students who tend to find math unbearable. The majority of class time is spent on thorough lectures, which illuminate statistical concepts with realistic examples. Araki emphasizes the ability to interpret concepts in "English," and this comes through in her presentation of the material, as does her friendly disposition and refreshing sense of humor. She is also one of the more approachable instructors you will encounter, and thoroughly answers all questions posed during lectures without ever intimidating or insulting students.
ISED 160 students can expect an average of one homework assignment per week (up to 2 hours), in addition to three exams (for which Araki provides sufficient preparation) and a long-term group project involving statistical applications. Even if math is your greatest weakness (as it is mine), you will succeed in this course if you attend all lectures, pay careful attention, and do the required work. While the textbook is dry and confusing, Cheri has prepared an easy-to-understand course reader with study guides and necessary reference materials. She also allows notes and textbooks to be brought to exams.
Almost all ISED 160 students are pursuing majors outside of math and sciences, and are fulfilling the GE reuirement for data analysis. I would recommend taking the course as early as possible.

cheri rocks as a math teacher for the math-impaired. she is super patient and willing to go over things til everyone gets it. NOT for math nuts, as those of us who struggle will hold up the class.
a great way to ace the graduation math requirement without damage to the ol' GPA!

Dr. Araki is an exceptional techer and human being. She is willing to work with you no matter what your problem is. Even if you miss classes, not saying that it is O.K., but she will allow you to make up almost anything. ISED 160 is basically a statistics class and it is kind of difficult for many people. She realizes that it is hard and that you probably won't use it in life so for every test she allows you one cheat sheet and your book. She has a wonderful personality and a great sense of humor. If you need to take any kind of math class look for her name because she is the bomb!!!!!
