A so-so teacher

I took this class in Spring 2004. Having taken her in DS601-Applied Mgmt Science class, Prof. Azoury is definitely more passionate in teaching this Forecasting class. She provides handouts of her lectures so you dont have to write like crazy while she is talking. She does the data manipulation w/Minitab in class so you see what steps shes taken and see the results. She answers questions and tries her best to explain in a clear manner. This prof. knows Statistics and passionate about it. However, the topics could be overwhelming, confusing, and boring but if you do the assigned homework, you will understand better. It is to your advantage to do them and ask her questions. Otherwise, she will not go over them in class. There were 2 exams, group project, and final exam. Each exam is composed of 3-4 questions w/up to 3 subsets each open book, open notes, and is done in the Business Computer Lab. Even though these exams are straightforward and not lengthy, sometimes they are a bit difficult to comprehend because of the way she words the questions -- you will have doubts about your answers. She is not very generous in giving points either. For example: If she asks you for one equation only and you wrote down more than one because you are not sure which is the right answer and you are hoping that she will give you credit -- you are wrong! She will mark you zero because according to her, she does not know which one you meant as your answer.

About her grading system, she does apply some curving. However, this curving is not really effective if theres always someone getting 95%-100%. It shifts the passing score higher, which puts those who are in the 60-69% in a delicate position. However, Prof. Azoury takes into consideration your progress over the semester.

Team project is composed of written report and presentation of your report. Do not join the free riders because you will look incompetent in front of the class. In my class, there were several smart students and their questions were challenging but answerable if you are prepared and know your presentation well.

As to the kissing ass, yes there are several students who are kissing ass (I know two of them) but I do not think it is helping their grades. Those two, I know failed DS601 and possibly DS604 classes. Prof. Azoury may look gullible, but really she is not. Yes she could be firm but she is also nice. It also depends if she is having a bad day or not. Basically, if you are playing the kissing game, she will play you.

I had the opportunity to take DS312-Data Analysis w/Computer Applications before taking this class and it greatly helped me understand regressions especially hypothesis tests. I suggest you take Prof. Jamie Eng for DS312.

Bad teacher

she sucked. cannot teach. i taught myself everything. she only goes over the formula then does examples. that is pretty much the whole class. tests only have like 6 qs on them each worth like 15pts or more each! Her final was the most easy but i think that is due to all the complaining we did in class!! final was like 10 qs. final grade on a curve but i dont know how much that is going to help. take someone else if you can.

A total waste of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Professor Azoury sure knows her stuff but she is not a good teacher. If you know basic algebra, this is redundant and boring for you. If not, be prepared to work on your own. She doe not clarify conceps. She spends too much time going over the homework instead of lecturing. She gets really frustrated when students ask questions. She doesn't collect homework assignments so you grade for this class is soley on quizzes and tests. The class is very dissapointing. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone unless you really what to bore yourself and be on your own.

Good points: -go over homework assignments -bring cheat sheets for test exams -your grade is curved

negative points: -takes very long (up to 3 weeks) to get back your exam -has absolutely no skill in teaching -doen't collect homework -has temper tantrums -be on your own -lectures very confusing -doesn't address questions well

Do not take her class if you don't already have a VERY good math background

I dropped out from this class for many reasons. The lectures and the homework assignments does not relate to the quiz/test questions she gives you. Her class is so boring that a lot of people walks out during the lectures. She assigns problems and tells you that those types of problems will prep you for the quiz. SuRe, if those problems prepare us, then why did a lot of students failed? When people come up to her and ask how come the lectures does not relate to her quiz/tests, she just ignore us repeatedly and tells us to work harder. If you want to pass this class, you HAVE to have a very good math background before coming into her class. If you don't, I suggest you drop the class or either register for credit/no credit because at least it won't affect your gpa.

An OK teacher

1. Does not collect homework 2. Grade is based on about 4 or 5 exams 3. Her lectures suck. I mean if you already know basic algebra and just taking this class for requriments, you're gonna wanna walk out in the middle of lecture because its just boring. 4. She has a smart mouth. Try and ask her a question and she'll make a smart ass remark.

Take this teacher if you can stand these things. She's alright. Not the best teacher, but not the worst. Don't expect to learn anything you already didn't know.

This Teacher Sucks

This teacher SUCKSSS. She doesn't have any homework that has to be turned in, and her tests and quizes are straight forward. If you can teach yourself out of the book then this is an easy class, but if you're like me where i actually need the teacher to teach me the material then don't take her. She speaks very poor English and never answers anyones questions. She just writes problems on the board, and then solves them without ever explaining what she's doing. One time I asked her a question about what she just showed on the board, and she said, "You should know this by now", and moved on. This teacher sucks, and if at all possible don't take her unless you want to try to teach yourself. I realize my review isn't completely valid because i received a D in the class, but up until this math class I've never received anything lower then a B in any math class.

She's great. I loved her

She's great. Especially for BA 212, she's the best. Agreed you have to work hard for her BA 412 class but she prepairs you for the real world of business. I choose my major because of her and I use everything I've learned in her classes. Don't believe the bad reviews... she's good. But you do have to work, but you LEARN. Plus she's a great person. She extremely knowledgeable in the field of Statistics.

Horrible Teacher!! Don't Take Her!!!

This could of been a interesting class, something you could take with and apply it to your work but, since she was such a terrible teacher while in the classroom and during her office hours, I really hated her and the class. She like to to put people down when you ask questions during office hours and her accent makes you not able to understand her. She totally favors her students and gives better grades to the students she likes. A friend of my got almost the same grade on a test and she gave that person a A while I got a B. Nobody really knows how she grades because she decides based on a curve at the end of the semester. I think she uses that to hide the fact that nobody knows their scores and that she gives her favored students a better grade. Take my advice, don't take her unless you are really smart and do not need any outside help!

K Azoury is simply awful. I do not reccommend her. Not only are her lectures disorganized, she is pathetic, whiney, and needs constant reassurance.

A fair teacher!!!

I think Prof. Azoury is not as bad a teacher as people think she is. Her tests are totally based on all her class lectures, so if you study that, you'll pass the class! I just used her class notes, which is also easy to understand, and received an A for the class. Barely opened the book at all! Another good thing is that she curves big time. A class average of lets say 60% is considered a C (not D-)!!! So your test score is based on that average to boost up your grade. As long as you do better than people in your class, you're fine. The homework she gives is also helpful because she teaches you how to use programs (excel, microsoft project) that may be useful for you future career! And I did hear that if you "suck-up" in her class, she will like you better and give you a better grade. Well, I kinda think this is true. I've seen people done it in class...obvious bastards! But lets just say my grade was earned and if you do that, you'll be very happy about it. Well Good Luck!

Easy B, some ass kissing can give you an A

I'm writing as honest and helpful as I possibly can. She is GENERALLY a very nice professor, caring about the students. Her exams and homeworks are fairly difficult. If you come to class and understand the lecture, you should be able to get B. One thing, she curves, so one of the reviews above I think exaggerrates that the average is 64 which is F.

My only little concerns are the availability outside the class and her subjectivity. By the last week of the semester, she gave students her home phone number for easier access to get to her, but before that she was kind of difficult to find. She is also very subjective, and I think this is not fair. She seems to favor those who she likes, and although I can't prove it, I have a feeling that she may disfavor those who piss her off by taking make up exams all the time, leaving early, etc.

Finally, my recommendation is always come to class, take good notes, and you'll get easy B. If you want an A, then read the text book (which she barely uses) and do some kissing ass!! Forgive my language, but that's what I really think of her personality... Goodluck!

Dr. Azoury is outstanding, in every sense of the word. Her lectures are clear and effective. She explains the material thoroughly until it is understood by everyone. I would highly recommend for you the pleasure of taking Operations Management with Azoury. If you are a slacker, you will complain. If you are serious about getting a solid business education--this class is for you!!!

Dr. Azoury is an outstanding teacher. Though, she has a heavy English accent, she is very easy to understand and is clearly the most organized teacher I have ever had. If you want a class where you don't have to work hard this is NOT the class for you. Her class is very demanding and you need to do all the homework she assigns, otherwise you will never do well on her tests. Her test are pretty hard, but very straightforward -- if you do your work you will earn a good grade. Dr. Azoury loves to teach and she is very passionate about the subject.

In my opinion, Dr. Azoury is one of the best instructors in the business school. She is very knowledgeable and she has a sincere interest in sharing her knowledge with her students. Her lessons are structured logically, her expectations are clearly defined, there is a lot of in-class review of material, homework assignments fit well with in-class work. To do well in Azoury's classes do the assigned homework in a timely manner, pay attention in class, and ask questions as appropriate. In other words, don't expect to coast. What you get out of the class will be proportionate to the effort you put in. Do the work and you will be rewarded.

I recomment you do Not take any class from her for several reasons. First, I often could not understand her English. Since I'm a non-native speaker, I felt sorry for her. Second, her lecture was not really organized. She first mentioned that we were going to get extra credit for turning in homework. But it never happened. As for Exams, they were hard. I could not believe that she thought she covered enough to ask those hard questions. You need to invest hours to get better grade. The exams could be tricky too. Well, if you dare take this class, good luck!

I took Prof Azoury for BA 412 in Spring 98. Her class is definitely challenging. If you're looking for an easy "A", she isn't it. She assigns homework to be turned in. You must take careful lecture notes. To do well on the (3) exams, you should do practice problems from the textbook and lecture, as the exam problems are modeled after that. I recommend studying/cramming for at least 8 hours straight prior to exam date--call in sick from work if you have to. I don't recommend missing any lectures or you will be lost. She does NOT answer questions outside of class. Don't bother going to her office hours, because she will simply dismiss you with her face. You have a question? TRY TO ASK IN CLASS! Even after a tortuous semester with Prof Azoury, I would still recommend her because of her EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND lectures, and straightforward exam problems...and isn't that what's most important here? Geez, I've rambled. Sorry.
