Brilliant and inspiring

Sue Bessmer is one of a handful of professors that accentuated my college experience. Her class was always infused with an energy and enthusiasim that was infectious. Prof. Bessmer's exciting antecdotes made learning thrilling, we were all happy to be there and eager to hear what she had to say. The written assignments were graded and critiqued for the students and we were then able to make corrections and resubmit the assignment. So in addition to learning the course material, she helped her students considerably with their writing skills.

Truly a spectacular teacher, Prof. Bessmer promoted such an exciting atmosphere that was sad to have to leave. After her dismissal on the final day of class instead of bolting to the door, students hesitated in their chairs. Reluctantly, we eventually got up but instead of leaving we each waited for our chance to personally hug and thank such an amazing professor.

The Best Professor At SFSU!!

I love this professor! Sue Bessmer is the most caring, friendly, and helpful professor I've ever had. I recommend every student to take her class. Her lectures are insightful and she knows what she is talking about. Her assignments are reasonable and she gives her students the chance to correct and learn from their mistakes on exams and essays. She goes out of her way to help her students. This is a virtue that she definitely has. One time, I needed a signiture from another social science professor and there was no way for me to see that professor because of a conflicting time schedule. I asked for Professor Bessmer's help and she personally took the paper and had it signed by the other professor.

A Simply Amazing Teacher

Sue Bessmer is not only a great teacher, but is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Her lectures are interesting, and she makes them fun. There are five take home tests that are multiple choice, and allow you to learn the material. There are three papers, two of which count for grades, so if you do well on the first two, then you don't have to do the third one. There is not a midterm or a final. Attendance is a must, but trust me, you'll want to be there. I recommend Sue for anyone who needs to take this class, and really wants to take something away from it.

A must take

I cannot believe that no one ever rated Sue. This teacher is a gem. For one, her classes are fun, fun, fun. She is so entertaining, but she knows her stuff and can make even the most difficult facts easy to understand. As to assignments, these include two esssays (5 pages) or three essays if you are not happy with your grade, on a topic of your choice, limited to some degree to certain geographic or historical areas. Also there are some take home exams which concern the reading. These exams are straightforward. No tricks, it is all in the book. Best of all, this teacher is always there for her students. If you have trouble, you can call her at home. She even shows you how to use the library and helps you find your resources if you have trouble. She pre-reads the essays! This is not to say that one does not have to work in this class, but it is do-able and the teacher is ultimately supportive. You got to take this teacher!!!
