pretty good

Prof Bhimjee's class was very good. I learned several different methods on multimedia which included, soundedit, photoshop, premiere, flash, director, shockwave and more. He grades really easy on the homeworks and is willing to hear you out if he mis-graded your project. This class was pretty good compared to all the shi##ty classes i've taken in the isys department.

Mad Eye Moody

Professor Bhimjee isn't as moody as most people think he is. He has to put up with a lot of stupid people that can't follow directions. Towards the beginning of the semester he tells you exactly what he wants, and he repeats himself more than once. But some people just don't listen to him in class because they're too busy talking with each other. And when they do something that results in a poor homework grade, they go up to him asking for a reason why. I as well as the most of the class, almost always cringe when we see this because everyone knows what's coming and that is a big fat bhimjee blowup in your face. I can't say that the people who get yelled at didn't deserve it.

Bhimjee's been teaching this class for a few semesters now, and he seems more adept about teaching the material. However, he's isn't the type of person that appreciates the subtleties in graphic/multimedia design. If you want a good grade, you just need to make the flashiest / most colorful homework/project assignments as possible. You're guaranteed to do well. Nevermind spending time on little things because he won't notice.

Lastly, the list of exam questions are the same every semester. If you have a friend who took the class already, they can give you their study notes to study from. Most people jam all 25 questions into the allotted 1 page cheat sheet that he allows.

Only if you have to and are desperate for a class!

Professor Bhimjee is moody, unreasonable, confusing, frustrating and generally a total bummer. Although I believe he does have good intentions and actually wants to educate his students, he falls short of accomplishing anything.

He does not explain things very well, if at all, but then grades you as if you could read his mind. The semester long project is SO FRUSTRATING! He doesn't answer your questions about it nor does he explain what he wants from his students. Most of the groups went down rat holes with regards to the semester project because he DOESN'T explain things. As a Graduate student, your time is too valuable to waste playing this guessing game.

He also has a tendancy to argue and humilate students in front of the class. He has made people cry and stops people during presentations to criticize their speaking skills. Speakers sit down shaking and some students are too nervous to even talk to him.

SERIOUSLY! If at all possible, do not take him for this class. You will end up pissed off most of the semester.

He is one of the most unorganized, tempermental teachers on campus. If you want to learn anything of worth your better of reading the book. But then again the text has absolutely nothing to do with the Computer Applications he attempts to teach. His lectures are noteworthy only for the occasional frustration he may have for a student and his mannerisms. If you want to pass this class do the asssignments and remember every little detail that goes into a spreadsheet and I do mean every little step.

I've read some of the poor reviews about Dr. Bhimjee, and I have to say that most of them are kind of biased. Yes, Dr. Bhimjhee loses his temper at times, but for good reasons. I mean, if you are taking a senior level course, and you still have not learned how to assign a label to your floppy disc, you ought to be thrown out of the class!!! I enjoyed his class, because he introduced us to so many useful multimedia applications, off of which I have been able to generate some income less than a few months after taking the class. It is true that he is not competent with all the applications that he teaches, but he himself admits that. Can you find anyone who knows all the applications that exist out there, inside and out! Give me (or him) a break. In fact, his teaching style relies heavily on learning from errors. I for one did great in his class. However, I could understand how some people may get intimidated by his temper. Nonetheless, if you're a good student who shows an interest in the projects, you'll do well in his class.

For the most part, Dr. Bhimjee's exercises were extensions of what I learned from BUS 782 - Access, Excel, Internet - albeit more of an advanced nature. For example, he assigned simple spreadsheet and database exercises as homework. He also required us to build our own web pages.

As a group project, you would construct a more comprehensive database that has some practical use. Additionally, you would be required to write a paper about your company's MIS, if you're currently employed. Alternatively, If you're not employed, you could attend a software exhibit and write a paper about a new software. He gave two exams, both were essay-type exams. He encouraged students to not limit our thinking on what the textbook said, but be able to imagine various applications of MIS in our society ten years from now.

Dr. Bhimjee's weakness was that he did not show expertise in any of the applications he wanted us to use. At most, he would give a cursory overview of what the application was supposed to do. Actually, many questions were resolved only because some students were knowledgeable about the applications and they were willing to jump in and helped resolve problems.

His lack of expertise notwithstanding, I found the group project and term paper challenging. Additionally, it gave me the motivation to read more about topics that I didn't get much clarification in class, like object-oriented database, for example. Also, reading Computerworld magazine (available in the library) regularly helped me get up to speed with many buzzwords that were used in class but were not thoroughly explained.

Overall, don't expect to learn much from his class if you plan to just sit in class. Expect to learn more through further research and self-training in computer applications.

I just finished the class yesterday and talked some of my classmates about it. We all couldn't really come up with something we had learned in this class! Yes, we did a few Access and Excel projects and some of us played (not very successfully) with Visual Interdev, but that is not not really want I would expect from an advanced graduate IT-class... Also, Professor Bhimjee is not a good instructor, he is almost incompetent when it comes to demonstrating or explaining, and he picks on people that are not too confident about the subject. In short, if you want to learn anything and are willing to put some time into it, take Gill's section. You'll be better off! On the other side, if you are like me not particularly interested about learning how to get Visual Interdev to run a Webpage simulation on your own computer (how useless!), and are prepared to bluff your way through without putting much effort or work into it, Bhimjee is tolerable. Just be sure to use as many colors, animations, and sounds in your projects if possible (even or especially when you think it's overloaded or senseless!). He'll like it!!!

Bic814 with Prof.Bhimjee was nothing short of a train wreck. He was routinely unprepared, meandering, condescending to students, and very critical of student performance on very vague assignments. In all fairness to Dr.Bhimjee, he is supposedly a good instructor in Mac based classses. He is not a PC person. He does not know the PC applications needed to learn anything in 814. If you want a self taught course, with the occasional shouting diatribe about something that tweeks him, take Bhimjee. Otherwise, take Gill and learn the facts.
