Dominque CENICEROS

I took MAT 109 with Dominique, and enjoyed the class. After not having a math class for over 5 years, I was hoping that I did not wind up with an instructor who would be insulted at the notion of someone asking a question. She is very accessible outside of class, before and after lecture and during office hours. She also makes it a point to inform the class of other tutoring opportunities.

My only complaint about the class was that due to the amount of material to cover in the semester, the lectures did move quite fast, and sometimes I did feel lost. However, it was no problem to ask her to re-explain a concept after class, or to explain questions I had on the tests.

This was probably the most thoroughly taught math class I have ever taken. Simple concepts such as set notation, which other instructors either never covered or even used, were explained in this class.

Homework was challenging, and reinforced the concepts introduced in the lecture. The tests were difficult and challenging, but fair. If you did your homework, and had a good understanding of the concepts in class, you have a strong chance of getting a good grade on the tests.

This was not an easy class, but crucial to passing calculus. Dominique made certain to also explain what we would see in calculus and how some of the material serves as a foundation for the next step. For example, we were exposed to difference quotients, which are part of the definition of a derivative, and given a problem which included one on just about every test.

Last, but not least, she gave recommendations on who to take calculus from the next semester.

I thought she did a very good job. I had to retake this class over the summer and was pissed off but her class turned out to be not that bad. She does have a tendency to pack a lot into one lecture but I think it was because we were taking it over the summer. She told us she wasn't gonna have time to go over the homework during class but when she noticed we were all having trouble she made time to answer our questions in class. I thought that was nice. Overall she did a great job and I passed! Also I HATE math but in her class it wasn't that bad. She was able to make it understandable and helped you with anything and everything. She's a kewl chick. I vote for her!
