My experience was nothing like the others maybe major improvements were made by Mr. Canton

I was very surprised at the reviews Mr. Canton received in particular one person's comments. First of all, Mr. Canton does not talk more about himself than the subject. That comment was exaggerated. And I found him to be very organized on the material he presented as well as very knowledgable in his field. The only thing I did not like about the way he teaches is that he lectures while the class is having to write down all of the notes from the overhead, so a lot of times, I miss the lecture b/c I'm too busy copying everything down. Overall, I think he is a good teacher and he has a very happy upbeat personality which is very good b/c the last thing I need is a bitter teacher. Unfortunately, there isn't too many happy people out there. The teacher's attitude really has a lot to do with how students will take in the material. Now, someone made a comment about his racist remarks being one-sided, racism has always been very one sided but because a Black teacher speaks about it openly and jokingly, suddenly there's a problem. Racism does exist just like they did in his younger days and he is not trying to cover it up like everybody else. Anyways, it's not like he comes into class everyday and makes fun of his racist experiences. Plus the remark that the person made, "I guess if you think Affirmative Action and Ethnic Studies is a good thing, you should enroll in his class" is a pretty ignorant remark and is racist in itself! A suggestion to all: Be aware of everyone's biases while reading these reviews including mine.

Dr. Canton has the most ambiguous style of teaching than any other teacher I have ever come into contact with. I took him for Psy of Learning and regretted it. I did not learn much about the subject, which was supposed to teach us students about many philosphies of former Psychologists. He is extremely unclear when he lectures, he does not have mucy interaction with students during his lectures and when many of us students asked him a question, we came away much more confused than before we asked him a question. I would like to see him not teaching at SFSU, unless he prepares his lectures in a more concise and understanding format.

Dr. Canton is an excellent teacher. He is enthusiastic about teaching and about Psychology. His preparedness for both classes did not cease for a split second the entire semester. His teaching style, and lectures are outstanding. He handed each student a syllabus at the beginning of the semester with a clear reading list and plan for the entire semester. He explains things very clearly when questions arise in class. Sometimes it's tiring when people particiapte in dialogue with him when they don't listen, and don't read the book. Please! read and listen. In general when you don't do these two things you end up missing out on a lot in life. I am graduating this semester and have found him to be one of the best professors at SFSU. The school should be extremely proud to have him as a member of their faculty. I encourage any person who is seriously interested in Organizational Psychology to take his classes.
