Okay...Cathey is a great easy going guy but not someone who you would want to take as a teacher. He seems funny and cool but when it comes down to it he is never prepared for a lecture, never can answer your questions. Gives you test on specific material but won't give you a study guide or explain what the test will be on. Also he never wants to talk about grades or is available during his so called "office hours". I love the guy as a person but if you take his class don't expect a good grade.

He is very easy going at the same time very exact on the point he wants to make. Sometimes his lesson is a little unclear, but makes the class more of a pleasurable experience rather then the dreaded long lecture's.

Prof. Cathy is a very nice and cool teacher. Althought some people may not like his jokes, he is a funny and a down to earth kind of person. He's very social with his students and he always make sure that he gives enough feedback to his students. If you have a problem with any assignments, just ask him and he'll try his best to assist you. Even though he's an easy teacher, I've learned a lot from him. Overall he is one of the best teachers @ SFSU.

Although he has humor to amuse 14-17 year old students, his grading standards are very poor and appalling. Having to take his class brought me back to high school, and was ridiculous. For his final, some students chose the option to lecture in front of the class. Some were good, but there were many that were poorly organized and still received praise from him. The students even used profanity and didn't have any clue about what they were saying, but he sat there nodding his head like it was the best lecture he had ever heard in his life. Tips for getting an "A": 1. use profanity 2. talk to him about nonsense before, during and after his class. He is a very nice guy, but is unprofessional and needs to control his fresh out of high school students.

Although some people like this teacher, I think he's too old to be teaching. He tries to act cool by speaking "ghetto" and whatnot but he's just making a fool of himself, even though he already does when trying to TEACH! His lectures..well I never understood one thing he said. If you want to pass the class, you better do all the reading he assigns (and it's a lot) because his quizes are based on it. I think it's time for him to retire.

MR.CATHEY!!! at first i thought i was going to get a B or a C but I ended up getting an "A". he's a pretty easy teacher. just show up to class and participate and just do good on his test and your all set. i felt that he didn't read my final paper, but yet i got the full credit from. all i remember in his class was how he made fun of FILIPINOS ('cause he's half). OVERALL: if you want an easy "A" take his class. he even lets you out early if you take the once a week class.

second time taking his class.. gotta love this guy, he is hilarious.. but his class can be confusing.. for one, he doesnt assign any homework, or take attendance.. he gives 2 midterms and 1 final.. those are hard as anything.. id consider not slacking off on the reading and doign his reading so taht u can catch up to his hard ass final.. his final/midterms are based on book and some lectures.. if u dont go to class the whole year and read the book, u can get by

This was by far my easiest and most entertaining class that I have had all while I was at state. Cathey is really laid back, and the work load is highly managable and there's a lot of group work too which minimizes the amount of work that u actually have to do.

This is the best teacher at SFSU. He is a great teacher that really knows what he is talking about, and talks about it in the most hilarious ways. He will crack a few dirty yet hilarious jokes a day! He gives 13 assignments throughout the semester and only counts the top 10 best. He gives ONE final seminar in which you take a side on a topic. This is definately a VERY reccommended class, he is GREAT!! A+ across the boards.
