Whitney Chadwick

Whitney Chadwick is by far the most valuable Art Historian at SFSU. Her approach to teaching art is vigorous, exciting, and is counter discursive to much of the art written about gender and sexuality. In all of the classes that I have taken with Whitney, I find myself working extremely hard for her, but the material is not dull or redundant. It is because of Whitney that I remained in the Art History program and it is also because of Whitney that I am applying to graduate school. Whitney's lectures are intense because she is able to cover a great deal of information in a short period. I would walk out of her lecture with five pages of notes for a one and a half hour class! Having said this, it is important not to miss class because even though the text for the class is written by Chadwick herself, the lectures do no regurgitate the text.
