This is the kind of class that makes you want to ask for your money back from the university. Class had absolutely no direction and was less a lecture as it was a question and answer session- students asked questions pertaining to their own health ("what does it mean if i get naucious after eating raw foods?")-and she spent the majority of the time answering them. The syllabus was extremely vague, and very little was actually taught about traditional chinese medicine; Ms. Chang seemed to expect that the textbook would explain everything for us. The midterm was filled with questions that seemed random or were never discussed in class, and though it seemed reasonable to us as a class that the grades would be adjusted to eliminate the topics we had never covered, she never bothered. She seems like a nice lady, but how she ended up in this position blows my mind. Seriously, she so needs to stick with the acupuncture full time.

Please take the time to consider what it is I have to say. Cynthia Chang is by far the WORST instructor I have ever had the displeasure of knowing. She is clearly a nice person with a decent sense of humor, but her teaching ability is severely lacking. Her lectures are scattered and chaotic. She has a difficult time staying on track, so she covers the same tidbits over and over. She refuses to give a study guide because "we should know what to study because we have been discussing it all semester." Seriously. We--as a class-- begged her to give us some direction because we were all very confused. She responded with anger and resentment when we confronted her (also, as a class). She made us feel stupid for not knowing what to study and was unwilling to take responsibility for her poor instruction. Her tests and quizzes were very confusing--- sometimes painfully basic and other times excessively specific. I am really disappointed in the way this class turned out-- I was really excited to learn about Chinese medicine, but I feel cheated. I got A's on everything before the final and somehow she gave me a B--- something I will be pursuing in the coming weeks. I would strongly DISCOURAGE anyone from taking this course with Cynthia Chang. It is frustrating and ultimately a huge disappointment.

Dr. Chang is a very nice and friendly instructor. I learned a lot of things from her class during the summer section. The quizes and exams were not so hard. The project was not hard either. I really enjoyed her class. I highly recommend students who need to take this class.
