Cheng lao shi is a very interesting and funny teacher. Her classes are always entertaining and you will be able to learn a lot of Chinese with her. Her teaching method is effective, and since the classes are small, the classroom environment will be very confortable with her. Her energetic personality will make you NOT want to miss class. She may be kind of strict, but it's needed to learn this language.

Mrs. Cheng is an incredible and knowledge instructor, especially her handwriting is like an art. Also, her serious attitude was so impressive to all students. But the assistant teacher, Dennis Yang, was contrast to her. From his poor handwriting, late attendance, and ignorance to the students who needed help, I wonder how he could receive the contract from SFSU. Personally I felt his energy was just spent on young female students, and in class we could often see him talking to some particular Japanese female students about a subject-Japanese, which was not bonding to this class-Chinese. Moreover, he was too aggressive to arrange activities after class. Possibly Mr. Yang is a youny and energetic student in graduate school at SFSU, but this won't make him a good teacher. I conclude this class is worthy five unites, but it’s supposed to offer the instructors who are willing to serve all students. The grade of this class as below Mrs. Cheng A- Mr. Yang D
Average: C+ Consistency of class is important as well, becuase they couldn't support each other very well.

Prof. Cheng is absolutely the best teacher I have ever had! She always makes learning Chinese fun. She goes out of her way to make you understand the lectures. She also teaches slowly so everyone can understand the material. I also had her for Chinese 103 and I am glad she is teaching again for Chinese 501. She is wonderful and I hope she will teach more Chinese classes in the future. She is the best Chinese teacher there is.

Prof. Chih-yih Cheng is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Out of everything I have learned at State I have learned by far the most from her. She is a very dedicated teacher, who always has extra time outside of class to help. She even shows up to teach when she is sick. Prof. Cheng is the best because she makes taking a language class fun.

Cheng laoshi teaches a very fast-paced second semester class that is a challenge to take after Chinese 101. She always has a smile on her face and she loves to teach, even though she will make fun of those who are slacking off in class. She has a very good sense of humor, which is good for any foreign language class, and she strays away from the rigid and, sometimes incorrect, presentation of the text, often teaching us colloquial phrases or words we haven't yet learned. Cheng laoshi is a very good teacher to have when bridging the intermediate gap between first and third semesters.

Prof. Cheng is a wonderful teacher! I learned so much from her. Even though she is not currently my instructor, I can still count on her for help in my other Chinese classes. She is definitely my favorite teacher. I think if you want to learn chinese as a second language, you should pick her for an instructor!
