Mary is very knowledgable about nutrition and is a great lecturer. She is extremely organized and each class is interesting. I learned a lot about Diet and Nutrition. I was a little intimidated at first because she kept stressing and asking the students if we've all taken a college level Nutrition course. Yes, it is a pre-req, but sorry if we don't know or remember everything. She gets a little snappy when she is stressed out. But she is nice, approachable and helpful. Her tests are fairly easy, I would say medium hard, you do need to study and know the material. There are 2 tests, 1 final (cumlative). There are also 3 case studies, which require some research, then you need to type out a report. Overall, I enjoyed her class!!

I've taken her before, and for this particular course, she's no different. She's still an enthusiastic and great lecturer. Since she's a registered dietition, she gives credible and solid advice on how to live a healthy life throughout the stages of the life cycle. You will learn a lot from her. Teachers of this caliber are very rare here. There were three essays and three mc exams. Not bad. As long as you can read, write, take good notes, study, do the work, you'll get by. She is definitely worth your consideration. You won't regret it.

I liked Mary's class - she is VERY knowledgeable in regards to nutrition. I think the true test of a good teacher is if you retain what you learned - I've been out of her CFS 355 class for almost 2 months now, and I'm still checking food labels and am officially a "transfat-a-phobic". There was a lot of writing, but honestly the assignments weren't all that difficult and you knew about them well in advance. My only negative criticism would be that she should give breaks a little more often when lecturing - the class was 3 hours long and she would go almost 2 hours sometimes before giving us 10 minutes.... Overall, though, she was pretty cool.

Mary is an awesome teacher; one of the best I've had at SFSU in 3 years.
Her lectures were well-organized, fascinating, and relevant. She takes a subject that can sometimes be dry and boring and made it personal and engaging.
She has a great sense of humor and teaches with a no non-sense approach. She teaches the content in a refreshing, eye-opening way. She addresses all the current issues in health, diet and fitness and makes it easy for everyone to understand.
In a society where nutrition and health are low on the list of priorities and education, she gives us all the information and reasoning we need to make conscientious and healthy decisions.
This class should be required for all students. Nutrition and health are life-long issues for everyone.

Overall, her class was interesting and I've learned so much on having a good, nutritious diet. I've actually stopped eating fast food ever since I took her class! She is really personable, knowledgable and enthusiastic in what she teaches and she's always willing to answer any questions students have. Don't expect to breeze through this class though. There are three essays, two midterms and a final, which are all multiple choice. Her exams are all based on the study guides. Contrary to one of the reviews below, she really likes to receive input from students. She often encourages students to give feedback during class and to see her during her office hours. Overall, if you really want to learn, then take her. But if you're a slacker, prepare to be challenged since she's the only one teaching this course.

if students have different opinion, she doesn't like it. she have zero tolerance on ur assignments. lots of paper assignment. if you are a quiet student and don't really care if the information she gives to you is right or wrong. go ahead take her class and enjoy!
