It is astonishing that this man is teaching in a full-fledged university. He treated the students in this class as though we were all four years old! He skipped around so much that it was hard to follow just what he was doing. I had read a bit about OC before taking this class, so I was lucky. He made statements in class that took my breath away, such as "Arranged marriages are a good thing, class." I'm fairly certain the women's movement would have something to say about that! His tests were juvenile and random, quite often hand-written, and very difficult to prepare for, unlike any I had ever had before at SFSU. The course description he gave out at the start of the semester stated that the Chinese, Russian, Japanese and Mexican mafias would be examined, but we never got past the Sicilians and Italian-Americans, so the course was poorly titled, since there was nothing comparative about it. This course would be better named "Dr. DeNevi's Opinion on the Mafia." He made what should have been a fascinating topic into drudgery. It was a disappointing waste of time.
