Take this class!!!!

All of you closed minded people really should stop writing reviews. Dececco was a great teacher that presented the class with material that you would never find on any other campus. Thank god for SFSU. The class was uplifting and informative. Even if you did nothing but go to lecture you still learned a hell of a lot that you normally would have never even known existed. Thank you to Dr. Dececco.

Crazy stuff

De Cecco was a good teacher and the I liked the material he presented in his class. He covered bondage, s&m, anime porn, how to do anal, exhibitionism, and evrything freaky. Be prepared though, he shows a lot of nasty stuff like gay porn and bestiality. His exams were cool and his papers were easy. this was definitely an easy class. I'd recommend it definitely, it'll open your mind.

A clossal disappoinment

I'd like to start off this review by pointing out that I do not consider myself a conservative person. I am a Human Sexualities Minor, and have enjoyed most of my other HMSX classes. I did not enjoy my semester with DeCecco. Despite his constant assurances that this class was all about keeping an open mind, it was obvious to anyone paying attention that it was about being open to his views, and his views only. He had an agenda, and it was not subtle. He pretended he was open for discussion, but should you try to argue against him, he would twist your words such that it was impossible to make a point. Eventually, you stop trying. His tests were atrocities. A good quarter of the questions were worded so poorly that you couldn't be sure what he was trying to say, and another quarter had vague answers, or seemingly more than one correct answer. At least one question was blatantly incorrect, such that the correct answer was not an option (the TAs I talked to, who seem like very intelligent people, agreed with me). Classes would constantly run overtime, making me late for my next class. The only reason this class doesn't get an F is because of the few speakers who gave entertaining, intelligent and valid presentations, like Mistress Morgana. All in all, I was just disappointed. Being a minor in this field, I was really looking forward to learning something in this class, and the only thing I learned is how utterly turned off I am by a professor with an agenda. I know half a dozen professors on this campus who could have done a far better job with this class. I'd recommend staying away until somebody new takes over.

~~ Good Teacher ~~

2 Exams (50 pts each, 100 points possible) and 2 papers (50 pts each, 100 points possible) and a few extra credit opportunity (5-10 points)

What you get from this class is not just a grade you want. You'll be explored to all sort of human sexuality (homo, hetero, trans, queer...etc.) From missionary positions to anal fucking, he's all covered in the lectures. He shows all sort of videoes and invite all types of guests to the class to let students experience the variations of human sex.

I did not get the best grade I want but I've learned A LOT from this class. He's kick ass!

Open minded teacher

The conservative types wouldn't feel comfortable in this class. I for one was a conservative person. I was opened up after the class. I would recommend this class for many different reasons. I wish all my friends would take this class. There's 500 students in his class and there's always cheering for Dececco. The class doesn't change or force belief on anyone, I think some people might feel that way because they are unsecure about their own beliefs. The class only informs you about all the different kinds of sex including how to enjoy more. I didn't feel that Dececco was forcing his beliefs on anyone, only encouraging students to keep an open mind and accept how others view sex. I don't know why some students are so sensitive about his lectures, I think those students that complain about Dececco's unconservative views on sex are insensitive and narrow-minded. During the last day of lecture, every student praised Dececco and thanked him for having this class. Why don't those students that think otherwise speak up about how conservative they are and how they don't want sex. Jesus Christ! Those people don't even have the nerve to speak up and class and instead they complain about Dececco on teacherreviews. If you don't like the class, drop it, don't be hating on the hundreds of other students that enjoy it.

Perverted old man

Its plain to see that the only reason this class is on the roster is so DeCecco can get laid in all the different variations he teaches each semester. The class is a free for all joke and I waiting to catch someone jacking off in the isles.

It is very easy

the class is easy. there are two term papers, which i found very easy to write. there three exams which are very easy as long as you read the text and show up for the lectures. The professor discusses the subject that is presented for that day and the students comment on the topic questions, which are not very difficult.

Interesting subject matter but not the best class

I took DeCecco for HMSX 400 in Fall 2001 and I tend to agree with other people's posts, it was all about what he thought. You couldn't even be a little conservative without being ripped to shreds. Personally, while it was interesting to see the videos/performers most of the class was presented in a way just to shock people. I also think he had no right to promote drug use and even joked about doing ecstasy to relieve the stress of finals!

The exams weren't too bad but the papers were a joke and most people were clueless as to what to write. Office hours were also a joke. I enjoyed the class because it was an easy three units but, if you really want to learn something, skip this class.

Not shocking

I really get the impression that Dececco really gets a kick out of shocking students with all kinds of sex material and his constant use of the word FUCK--almost always used when describing sexual intercourse.

If you've ever visited internet porn sites, you've pretty much experienced his class. It's not such a big deal.

The class is really just a showcase of all the different kinds of sex. If you're totally clueless about sex and all the different kinds of variations about sex, then you will probably find the class pretty interesting (possibly educational?).

Fun Speakers

I took this class because I heard it was easy, but I came away looking at gender and sexuality with a different prospective. There are 3 50 question multiple choice tests and 2 5-8 page papers. The class panels and the guest speakers are usually very interesting. The porn videos after awhile are boring. Its unfortnate that the class is so large 600+ because more people would participate in a smaller environment. The test questions are too broad and could be better worded, but if you read the materials, show up for class and turn in the papers then you can pass this class.

GREAT TEACHER

Dr.DeCecco is a great teacher. He conducts a very difficult class and he has been doing so for a very long time. He knows the material and he can answer any questions that students have. He has great availability and is always there for his students. The class also has a number of TA's and they are also very helpful. I highly recommend taking this class with DeCecco, you'll learn a lot about yourself and sexuality.

Narrow minded and a waste of time

This class definately has interesting subject matter. However, the teacher definately is very narrow minded, he thinks he's presenting it so "open-mindedly" but he asks guest speakers questions at the end for his own perveted intrest. Last week, he had STUDENTS from the class lecture on Love. Can we say Disorganized? The guy totally fades away when he talks up on stage too, and doesn't hear out all of the student comments. The first exam taken about 2 weeks ago was a disaster. The test questions were vague, and worded terribly. This guy really needs to retire or have one of his teaching assistants proof read it. The TA's however, are really nice and helpful. They are students themselves, so it's hard for them to be there 24/7 but there are 12 of them and they are all flexible.

A great class

Dr. Dececco is a very open minded and understanding man. He is readily avilable to students before and after his classes which is very rare now. He actually cares about his students, and responds to emails in a timely manner. He presents sexuality in a very wide manner viewing different aspects of sexuality and sexual practices which opened my eyes and made myself a more accepting person. the ta's in this class are very helpful and FINE!

DeCecco's views only!

I took this class after reading the 1st review of this instructor. Since I am a "liberal" person I was very much looking forward to this class. Unfortunately, I found the class to be one sided (due to DeCecco's close-mindedness). DeCecco's syllabus points out that it is the intent of the class to open up new points of views and share them, but in no way push them on other people. Yet I found that when students had even slightly different views then DeCecco, he shut them down and tried to show everyone how shallow their views (and ultimately, they must be). He wants the students to be clones of himself rather than for them to digest, think, and formulate opinions of their own. It is not his views that I had a problem with, but the blatant way he tried to push them on everyone through his loaded questions (particulary evident in his exams). This class is still worth-taking, but take the time to think critically. DeCecco's material was also very Euro-centric, which did not at all reflect the diverse make-up of the students and he was out of touch in regards to issues facing students of color.

awsome class and teacher..

great class.......great teacher....what more can i say......if you can get into this class and you are up for something very different, please go for it!!! it's an experience you won't regret. However, if you are not very liberal or you have litlle understanding for different lifestyles...then don't even bother: you won't like it. It's a very explicit class, but you do learn quite a bit about human behavior. Dr. DeCecco rocks!!!!
