Doesn't know how to teach, hard to understand due to heavy accent

This teacher is one of the worse teachers I have ever had. Desta would be the reason why many people drop out of college. He doesn't spend time teaching the course material. He only goes over problems but offers a very hard to understand explanation. Most people don't even bother to ask him questions because they never understand his answer. He has a heavy accent which doesn't help the understanding. The teacher often sidesteps questions that he doesn't feel like answering.

The only positive thing about this teacher is that he lets you out of class early. His lectures are useless anyways so he mind as well dismiss the class early.

The only type of student that would excel in this class are the ones that love Economics and have the ability to read the textbook and understand everything in the book or have help from (or if you have help from prior students that took the course and remember the material).

good lecturer

Very good at teaching MGMT 407, not very good at adding up his grades. Got B's on everything, got a C- in the course. Pretty pissed but whatever, I never planned on getting a good grade in MGMT 407. Take the guy, he lets his class out really early every time and gives a good lecture.

Take him. He is good!!!!

He is the easiest MGMT 407 teacher. There is no homework. 2 little take-home assignments, 2 very easy open book tests (only 1 question), and 2 closed book exams. You don't need the book, because he explains everything in class, and there is nothing on the exam that he didn't explain. It's a night class 7-9:45 pm, but he lets you go at 8:15-8:30pm. The only bad thing is that he has an accent, some of the words that he says are just funny. You can't stop laughing when you hear it, but still it's easy to understand him. Take him, I strongly recommend him. He makes this class easy. I took this class 2 times with 2 different teachers, and I ended up dropping it twice, and I'm very smart person. With this techer I'm getting an A so far. He is very good. You will not regret it.

Not as bad as advertised.

Desta does have his "favorite" students if that means the students he often talks to. I happen to be in that circle. Our friendship did not prevent him from giving me a B-, however, which is what I truly deserved. He could have easily given me an A if he's as skewed as some claims, but he didn't. So I'm not sold on the idea that he's got a corrupt grading system. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

He has an intense and demanding personality which may be intimidating to some. His lectures are a bit dry and hard to follow sometimes due to English being his second language. But overall, he's a very competent instructor. He knows his stuff. He likes students who gives their best effort regardless of how they perform in exams. He does not base his grading solely on the results of the exams, but rather on the overall effort they show. If you show him that you are trying your best, he will bump your grade up.

He often gives 3 exams per semester. The exams consist of definitions and numeric computations. They are a bit challenging, but not impossible to ace. I've seen some who actually got close to a perfect score. If you're willing to do some work, his classes are not that difficult. However, if you're a slacker who expects to breeze through his class, you will be disappointed because it ain't gonna be a piece of cake. So go figure!

A reasonable teacher!

I feel I have to say something in defense of Mr. Desta. His class is very manageable and you do not have to spend a lot of time to score high. There are six A's in my class. His lectures are concise and to the point although sometimes he does not explain things too well. But you can always read the book to understand more! He gives you time to go over practice problems in the class and asks for no homework. Exam questions are based on what he covered in class. I would say he is a very reasonable teacher. Probably you will not learn a lot from him but if you do not want to spend excessive time on MGT407, it's a good class to take!

Bad Bad Bad!

He is an insensitive self centered a**. I never met a teacher as cold and mean as he is. He only explain and talks about things that he knows and avoids all other questions that the students have. He make it so obvious which students he favors and ignores the rest of the class. It is pointless to attend his classes because he doesn't know or care if you are there or not. Just borrow notes from his "favorite" students and you'll do fine in his class.

Take someone else for MGMT 407

While, Desta seems like a nice enought person, his MGMT 407 class was TERRIBLE! His lectures made no sense, and his exams had NOTHING to do with what we covered in class. I felt very fortunate to have survived with a C+, while (if my memory is correct) NOT ONE PERSON in the class I took got an A. If that doesn't tell you what you need to know about him, nothing will. I can honestly say that I don't think I learned a single thing in his class. I don't recommend him at all.
