I don't think he is a good instructor although he knows a lot about physical chemistry. He is very rude to minority students. He looks down upon us. It is true that he treats white students very well. I hate his treating different students differently. So minority students should avoid taking his classes except those women who are very beautiful or who can flatter him.

Dr. Eden is a wonderful lecturer. I've tried taking Chem 300 from Dr. Placky and there is really no comparison. Some students will avoid Eden on the basis that he's tough and demanding but those are good qualities. He pushed me to study and achieve actual understanding of thermodynamics when I was ready to give up on Chemistry. His personality is quite "in your face" so to speak. He doesn't like students who don't show a lot of effort and his tests and quizzes leaves one is shock usually. He offers a lot of advice, whether one wants it or not, and cares a great deal for the students in his classes. I would prefer if he was less sarcastic in his remarks but overall I think he's one of the better Chemistry instructors on campus.

All I have to say is that Dr. Don Eden is the most egotistical man I have ever encountered with. Often times, I think he feels that he can speak however he wants to his students just because he has a Ph.D. from MIT. Sure, he should be commended for his achievements, but he still has to treat his students with respect. He is power-hungry. If at all possible, avoid even speaking to this man. He's the worst instructor.

I totally concur with everything the 35-year-old female student says in her review of Dr. Eden. WELL SAID!! He is honestly concerned about our difficulties with the course (and nearly all of us experience this to some degree). Whether it's exam anxiety (and ideas for exam-taking strategies) or a particular concept, he is responsive and helpful with regard to students' concerns. He's terrific, brilliant, and with a heart of gold; take him, you won't be sorry!

Chances are you will not be taking Chem 300 (General Physical Chemistry) from Dr. Eden, but will be considering Chem 351 or Chem 353 (real Physical Chemistry), but allow me to describe for you the possible interactions you can have with this outstanding professor.
Dr. Eden is an intense man. His analytical processes continue outside the classroom and laboratory. He is very open to discussing your future plans, to the point of offering valuable advice unsolicited. My chance meetings with him in the hallways showed his genuine concern for my future path and choices of graduate schools.
As for his performance in lecture, he is an excellent lecturer. Examples are given in depth and with great humor. His exams were quite challenging but probing, indeed, the results of such exams gave him a clear gauge of the student's understanding of the material.
On first blush, Dr. Eden is exceedingly gruff, but beneath that stern exterior (as is often the case, younger students please take note) beats the heart of a very caring individual.
