Acct. 100 The worst class with the worst teacher ever!!!

I had a bad experience with this teacher because I did not enjoy how he would work out a problem and mess up the problem and then leave it for next time. Makes the material confusing when trying to work the problems yourself. The tests are tough and tricky and at one point it was the material I did not even studied the previous nights. I feel like if you want to pass this class, it is close to impossible...

Also, You need to have good people in the class because if you are in a class with lousy people, no one wants to join a group with you making the material harder and also making it harder to pass the class. Soo you need to be in a class with good people... I would not recommend him because he teaches you in a way that says you have to know this material already when you have never taken this class before. I mean come onnnn it is a 100 class not a 400+ class and he cannot expect us to know the material already! That is impossible! and Very Difficult!!!! That is insane!!!! I rather have a teacher that teaches me like a 100 class is suppose to be than have a teacher that expects me to know the material already! Cause THAT is ridiculous! Seriously.... and I feel that if we did more group work on the material and more time stressed to make sure we understood the material, then the class would not have struggled so much! Class work, Homework anything that would help us grasp it better and not struggle like we felt dumb... I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER for the reasons I have stated. Nuff said...

Alright-not to hard

This class is not that bad with embush...when I took it, only 3 exams and each exam had a take home portion which helps you get extra points. The in class portion is a bit difficult and attendance is definatley a plus but you can miss a few. Embush is nice and clear in his explanation but the class structure one night a week can be boring. I took Acct 101 with a different professor who made embush looked like the best teacher ever! Embush overall is pretty good and its not that hard to do well in the class if you stay on top of your game.

Don't Take this Teacher for Cost (Managerial) Accounting!

I took this course during the Fall 2002 semester. I understand from students who had Embush for ACCT 100 that he was a good teacher of financial accounting. However, Embush admitted upfront that he had only taught cost accounting once before - and it showed! It was clear that he never prepared for class and he literally made up the exams as he went along. His lectures were read directly from the teacher's manual, he provided poor examples and he couldn't answer any technical questions. In fact, I showed up during office hours to ask some specific questions about the take home exam, only to be turned away because he didn't have the answer key with him. Furthermore, it took him 3-4 weeks to grade each exam, so I didn't even know how I was performing until late in the semester. He also managed to fall so far behind that we skipped the last section (3 chapters) of the book. I clearly needed more direction, and the only reason I did so well is because he ended up grading on a curve.

THIS TEACHER DOESNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE SUBJECT

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR ACCUOUNTING 101, he doesn know SH*T, he teaches everything straight out the book, and when you ask him a questions he doesnt even know on how to answers. THE GOOD THING ABOUT this class is that you only have 3 tests and with those tesh he gives out TAKE HOME TEST which are 50% of you TESTs.TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR ACCT. 101 !!!

R. Embusch is a great professor with an objective to teach

I think Embusch is a great professor. He is willing to break all the information down until it is understood by the students (majority of course). His grading is very generous indicating that he has a desire to see his students pass rather than fail his course and there is always an opportunity to catch up if you have fallen behind. The key to understanding and passing his class is to do all the homework assignments and take good notes. He assigns a take home exam weeks before the in class exams which is very helpful. If you are willing to learn the problems assigned in the take home exam and homework, than you are sure to pass the in class exam and class. I totally recommend him as your first ACCTing teacher

Nice man but didn't learn much

Professor Embusch is a very nice person. He has a decent personality and seems very realistic. He uses real life examples so that the students understand where he's coming from. He gives you a take home portion of all exams, assigns homework based on what he lectured on in class and makes it seem simple. Well, it was not that simple. We had a very large class and after the first exam, half the class got A's and the other half got F's. There might have been 2 C's but that's still unbelievable. I like Professor Embusch as a person but not as an instructor. He know accounting so well that when he teaches, he forgets that not all the students are accounting majors and that some are learning accounting for the very first time (not by choice...Professor Choo calls accounting the necessary evil!). Therefore, students need to learn from the very beginning how to format their statements, what goes where and so forth. I am a pretty good student and I hated that I couldn't follow along. In class the lectures seemed ok but students are still handicapped until they learn all the basics step by step. If you know some accounting, take him and you'll do fine. If not and you need to learn from scratch, find someone else. Accounting is a BS requirement and it sucks that not only business majors are required to take it but other majors as well. Most people will never use the information ever again.

If any can recommend a really good accounting teacher please use this site!

an incredible instructor who brings life to the material

The teacher is very knowledgable on the subject and wants to see the students succeed. The testing is generous with a take home component that can be used in the test. The teacher does speak/write quickly, but will slow down when asked to.Highly recommend this teacher--very helpful in understanding the beginning elements of financial accounting. Always offers encouraging words to the students as they persue their academic careers.
