The best teacher in SFSU

This is my favorite class ever! The final is so easy and YOU ALREADY KNOW THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!!!! You just need to memorize 25 furniture, when it was design and who was the designer. That's it! Will you find another final like this??? There are 2 big projects, but you will do good if you follow his instructions. One is faux finish and the other one is group project. I guarantee you would not feel underpressured or stressed in this class!!!!!

A Big Price to Pay for an Easy Class

Fehrman's class was generally easy - everyone can pass this class. All you have to do is keep up with the art assignments, workbook assignments (which was easy enough for a 5th grader to do), and do a few projects. You can even fail a *few* assignments and still get an A in the class. I'd say best things about his class is that the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and he doesn't lecture much because when he does it's a snooze.

The bad thing about him, however, is that he does play favorites and it's obvious if you get a chance to sneak a peek at the grades on the assignments of his favorites. ;) But the MOST annoying thing about him is that he requires you to buy a lot of art supplies - some of which you will either never use or will use once or twice. That's really annoying because you spend so much money and never use them - the money to buy those supplies don't grow on trees you know!!

a fun teacher

Dr. Fehrman is extremely knowledgable in his field. In fact, he wrote a well-written textbook for this class. Projects are challenging and yet fun, and mostly consists of painting & drawing. Homework was really easy and consists of 5-10 multiple choice questions per chapter. There were no exams except for a take-home final. Overall, even though he could be a little goofy, his class was fun.

Color and Design CFS 240

Admittedly, in the beginning I was most intrigued by this man who strut in front of our CFS Color and Design class on the first day of instruction clad in orange shoes, purple corduroy pants, and some equally as bright, but not entirely obnoxious, sweater.

His lectures were insightful, and incredibly intriguing...and the projects he assigned were *always* challenging, yet fun to complete.

My only complaint, really, is the intimidation factor. Sometimes he came across as *very* intimidating...almost as if he expected us all to fail (ex: the b&w color gradient scale) I did notice that he favored students, and sometimes I didn't feel entirely too comfortable approaching him for this reason. Sugary sweet to some, but cool to others. I don't necessarily think he meant to "pick favorites", and I honestly do not believe it played a part in how he graded. He's a no nonsense kind of guy.

Aside from that all of that- the material is wonderful, interesting, and involved! Kenneth is a brilliant man (who *definitely* knows his stuff) and does a truly wonderful job of teaching it.

He rocks!

The 540 class with Dr Fehrman was the most fun (in a class) I've had in a long time. His lectures were awesome and I wish we'd gotten more of them!!!

The faux finish project was fun. I learned more than one finish even though I only did one project.

The group project at the end was not my cup of tea, but I see his point behind it.

Dr. Fehrman has his doctorate in Education. If anyone in his dept knows how to teach, it's him.

I noticed someone complaining in another review that he "picked on minority students." I do recall some students whose first language wasn't English having trouble but he went out of his way to help several of them for the final exam. He practically gave them the answers.

I don't think Fehrman is a nice professor. He seems to treat female students more nicer, especally someone who always "brown-nose" him. Sometimes he is picky on the design made by minority students. Besides, he is "lazy" to provide detailed direction on projects, and also you have to expect that you need to pay money to buy materials in order to get a satisfactory grade, esp. the last project. In general, I don't think he is a good professor

Dr. Fehrman is the best teacher I've ever had! He has a lot of knowledge and presents it in a really interesting, casual way that seems more like a chat than a class. He has said he believes the best learning is done in a fun environment and I think he tries to do this in his classes. He does not just expect you to memorize and parrot back things. He really expects students to think for themselves and to be creative and develop new ways of doing things. To do this he seems to rely on the more outgoing students to help him with discussions. Unfortunately I think some people mistake this for favoritism. Everyone has the same opportunity to participate. I was very excited about his classes and the things I learned there.

My first impression, . . .was that this instructor has great potential to be a really good motivating instructor. What I found to be more realistic was that he has favorites in his classes. I think that he is really knowledgeable of his field but has to spend more time teaching and not preaching about his clothes, and the famous people that he knows!

Ken was a good instructor. He made the class really enjoyable for me. But I noticed that he had his favorites in the class, though that didn't really affect you grade. I just hate teachers who show favoritsm. Otherwise, he's great! He made me laugh everyday. The course is an easy A, so long as you do all the in-class work and projects. That was my mistake. Because I missed one project, my semester grade dropped to a B. Try to do well on all the projects, because he doesn't give a final. Your grade is riding on all your work in the course of the semester. If you're enrolled in any of his classes, you're in for a laugh.

was a good teacher. sure did talk a lot. there really isn't much to say. he wasn't all that helpful since i am an art major and i knew how to do most of the stuff in the class, but he was very friendly and had a lot to say about a person's piece.

Dr. Fehrman is enthusiastic and informative. He makes the class enjoyable, and also very challenging. He's a professional interior designer, and obviously an authority. If I have a complaint, it's that we aren't given enough lectures. I suppose it's because there's so much to learn about interior design!
