Dr. Fraekel is a phenomenal teacher. He is kind, smart, and has a lot of experience with statistics. The best thing about the class is that he curves EVERYTHING! The homework, the tests, the quizzes, everything! It is not hard to stay ahead in this class. The material is straight forward and he explains it well. The homework is simple, usually four problems per class, and he will answer any question you have. His quizzes are not difficult, but be sure you know what you're doing. He has several TAs and they are always ready to help. Great teacher and class!

Doing well in this class is easy - just listen to what Dr. Fraenkel says on the very first day of instruction: Do the homework. Come to class. Keep up with the reading.
Dr. Fraenkel's jocular manner takes some getting used to - he jokes around a lot and definitely has his favorites in the class (those he likes to pick on and tease). But in essence, his bark is bigger than his bite.
The first few weeks of class I thought for sure I was going to do poorly as all of my homework came back as 2/4 or 3/5 and the quizzes and tests were hard. But it was okay! He grades on a curve - so as long as you are in the middle with, or a little ahead of, the rest of the class you'll do fine; just as long as you (you have it by now, don't you?) show up, do your homework and keep up with the reading.
I would recommend this class in a heartbeat; I've always been very discouraged by math and ended this course feeling very empowered. This class is full of so much useful and applicable information that I think everyone can benefit from it.

I would have done great in this class had I never gone. However, attendance is required, lest a lower grade be given. I had a pretty good idea of statistics before I entered his class, and left with a feeling of "What??" every time I left his class. If you want to understand math, this is not the class for you. Having said that, he's not a tough grader, the homework is easy, and if you can teach yourself the math, you will pass his class. He has about a 90% pass rate, but the class is very painful.

I'll admit I took this class only because I heard it's pass rate was like 99%. After a confusing start, I began getting the hang of it and realized it was not a hard class. If you take good notes, study well for quizzes and tests, and participate, you cannot go wrong.
At first Dr. F may come across as tough and strict, but once you know him, he's a nice guy. He maintains discipline, but he'll joke around with you sometimes, or lighten up the mood. Most of the time he explains the material well, and most importantly, makes it fun, if not, at least interesting. I would definitely recommend this class for GE.
Once the class gets going, there are short quizzes once a week, and they're not hard if you studied and did the homework. Sometimes he lets you use the book for problems that require long formulas (actual "math" formulas are rare in this class).
Tests were 25 questions, very similar to quizzes. Not impossible, but there may be a few hard problems here and there.
Overall, a fun class once you get the hang of it.

Dr. Fraenkel seemed very apathetic throughout the semester. I didn't think that he cared about his students and wasn't very understanding when a student was confused. Unfortunately, he doesn't treat most of his students like college students, but instead like high school students. I found that many students were dissatisfied with his personality and teaching methods. I feel that he put people down when the asked questions and he rarely understood and answered the question clearly.

Dr. Fraenkel is very good at teaching statistics. He is accessible and willing to go the extra bit to explain something in detail then go over it with you if you are having trouble. There is a lot of homework as well as reading, quizzes, exams and projects, but for someone like myself who isn't terrific in math, I managed to get through the class and actually learned something useful. I would recommend Dr. Fraenkel to anyone who needs to pass the Quantitative Reasoning requirement.

Dr. Fraenkel makes it very obvious that he is concerned about each student's performance. He is either in his office or one of his assistants is almost all of the time, and his lectures make what can be a thorny subject accessible. I had taken and dropped other stats classes and was afraid that this would be another washout, but the material is so graspable (if you do the work) that I got out with an A. I would recommend Dr. Fraenkel to any student who is in any way math phobic.

Dr. Fraenkel is the BEST teacher I've ever had - and probably the best I'll ever have. Everything is perfect with him. He's very nice (he even accepted adds without having room in his class - too many people found out how great a teacher he is and wanted to be in his class - almost everybody stayed!!!) He's very organized, he always gives back homework/quizzes/exams on time. He encourages you to do your job, and he's MORE THAN WILLING TO HELP. I was one of those who turned in the homework late, but I would still receive half credit. You need to work in his class, but that's only for your own good, cause if you keep up the homework and the quizzes, you can get a good grade even if you don't do too well on the exams. And the awesome thing about Fraenkel is that he'll always (yes, always) let you make up whatever you haven't done. (Home-work, mini-project, quizzes and exams.)
And if you have perfect attendance (no late-coming), he'll give you an extra 5% that might influence your grade big-time. I think that is what gave me an A instead of an A-. But it's also possible to get an A instead of a B (From 85% to 90%..)
ISED 160 with DR. FRAENKEL is the best way to fulfill your GE requirement. He's a great teacher, a great person, has a great structure of his class, can sometimes be really funny, is fair in his grading,

NO ONE ON THIS EARTH HATES MATH MORE THAN ME! However, with the support, wisdom, skill availability and sense of Humor that is Mr. Fraenkel I managed to pass the class. Sure it was no picnic and somedays I felt like i just wasn't going to make it but my communication with the Great Dr. always helped me to stay on track and move in the correct direction. Dr. Fraenkel was excellent at making me understand how statistical knowledge can be seen in the proper context. I believe this is another trait of his excellent skill and finess that keeps everyone charmed and coming back for more. Thanks for everything Dr. Fraenkel, you are awesome.

This is not a class that anyone would take for fun, but with Dr. F's teaching style it becomes as close to fun as statistics can ever be. His sense of humor and warmth make a dry subject less so, and his ability to communicate the subject make it a bearable class. The text is dry and the homework and studying more time consuming than many other classes, but if you apply yourself to the work he will meet you more than half way.

Dr. Fraenkel makes a sometimes boring and difficult subject of statistics, easy to understand and use in the real world. This course incorporates some traditional statistics, but deals more with the concepts and data analysis of stats. The workload is continuous, which makes attendance for an 8am class the only problem. He stresses class attendance is vital to the success to the class, but that is a given if assignments & qizzes need to be taken and turned in at each class meeting. His tests, quizzes, homework assignments, and projects will force students to prepare for class leactures and discussions. The exams appear simple, but the problems are broken down so that you will need to have a basic understanding of all the course material. He will also check you on the spot with class participation, but is not brutal as some other professors. Overall this course can offer a good foundation to more complicated statistics for anyone.

Dr. Fraenkel is an AMAZING teacher. I enjoyed him thoroughly when I took him for my GE course. I am always quick to recommend him to any student that needs to fulfill that requirement. Although the subject of mathematics is not difficult for me, I feel as though Dr. Fraenkel truly understands the fundamentals of teaching a subject, and expanding a student's knowledge. It is definitely a class that you will have to work hard in, but the effort that is invested into the class shows in one's final grade. Anyone who has doubts about statistics or this requirement should just take Dr. Fraenkel's class. The drawback to his class is that it is only available early in the morning, and he is strict on attendance. Just be prepared to absorb his style, and the rest will fall into place. I wish he offered another course, just so I could have the pleasure of being enrolled in one of his classes again.

I am the biggest Math phobic person on the face of the earth and I managed to get a B+ in this class (he must be doing something right). He's extremely knowledgeable, down to earth, and articulate...but you should be ready to WORK. Expect plenty of homework, along with weekly quizzes, take-home projects and a midterm and a final. Also, make sure you come to class prepared. You will have to participate! (He randomly calls on students, so make sure you do your homework and pay attention to class lectures). Although I took his class over a year ago, I still remember the basics about stats!

He is a great professor who has clear command of the subject. Since I was not expecting to take any of the algebra courses, i chose this class, and it has proved to be a fun and worthwhile experience. He kinda looks and talks like Sean Connery, which makes it fun to listen to lectures. The homework is so relevant to everyday life, the textbook is easy to read and comprehend and the only misgivings I would say about being in his class is participation. He calls on everyone, and I do find that he does pick on several students more than once, me being one of them, for no apparent reason. He's good-natured and down-to-earth. All in all, he's a blast!

Whatcan I say? He is truly outstanding. Funny, but very knowledgeable and easy to understand. He knows his stuff. He is very good at making difficult ideas clear (even to me, someone who is not so good at numbers). He's fast with a joke, calls on everybody, and is interesting to listen to. (He kinda looks like Sean Connery, a plus!). This is not an easy class, but if you pay attention, he will help you as much as you need. There is homework every week, plus quizzes, plus takehomes, plus exams, but it is well worth it. My advice: Take him! You will not regret it!

Dr. Fraenkel is an outstanding teacher. He is always willing to help students and will answer any question, however "dumb" it may seem. However, you must attend class, do all the homework and study hard to get a good grade in this class. This is no easy "A," so take this class seriously.

Prof. F is great. If you have to take statistics to graduate and have no natural gift for anything mathematical, take him. The work is odious, the text horrific, and there is no way to make this stuff into under-water basket weaving, but Fraenkel does his best to get you through it. He's funny, organized and accessible. If you listen to him and don't give him any trouble, he'll do whatever he can to get you through this hellacious requirement. He also doesn't like twits, which is lovely. If you act like a twit, he'll treat you like one. A very good guy- quick with a joke, but also the get-down-to-business type. You have to earn your grade, and the final project is rather involved, but overall, you can't do better than him (coming from an outside major) in learning statistics.
