Professor Frisbie is a wonderful teacher. Some people want to take an English class that is a breeze even though you don't learn anything; but Professor Frisbie's class is one that you will gain a lot from. I took him in Summer school, and he kept me a wake and interested for the 4 hours I spent in his class a day. He is informative, funny, patient and knowledgeable. I feel that my writing has improved because of what he has taught me and his approach is not so technical and boring. He uses methods that are interactive and interesting making learning, writing, and meeting people enjoyable. I love his humor and his positive attitude towards life. The essay topics were great and really allowed me to analyze myself and topics that are not so commonly thought about. Take him... you will learn a lot. Don't be intimidated by the reading or the essays because he is patient and spends a good amount of time helping you and making sure that you are prepared and aware of your assignments.

This professor made me love writing, just for that semester I was lucky enough to be in his class. I was sad that throughout the rest of my college career I was never able to take another class with him. He will make you feel good about yourself and about writing, which is the best gift any teacher can give a student. A wonderful treasure.

Michael is really a great english teacher. His lectures flow very nicely and come to a specific point in the end during wrap up. I usually have a hard time paying attention in class but with his weird hurmor and interesting topics it was pretty fun. he gives a lot of leway so you can really have fun while you sharpen your skills. I was expecting to get a C+ or B- but I worked hard on the last essay and I guess thats what did it. his quiz formats are really easy just listen to lecture and you will be fine.

Michael made English fun. He has a relaxed style, a very funny sense of humor, a willingness to help, and a genuinely caring attitude toward his students. In addition, he is quite knowledgeable, fair at grading, and responds promptly to emails. He is one of those teachers that you like so much that you want to impress by taking the class and assignments seriously.
Grade Proportions: Essays 70 % Other writing (including journals) 20 % Class participation and other work remaining 10 %
Although he has a great website, your grade can still be effected if you skip classes often because there are in-class assignments.
By giving an appropriate work load for a three unit class, he shows that he is aware that most of us have lives and other classes.
The homework gives good practice in writing, and he offers helpful information in class. As a result, his teaching style is effective.

Mr.Frisbie is by far the best teacher I have had in the history of my education. He has the most entertaining class ever! I had him for Eng.214 and I would not mind if I fail the Jepet, just so I could take one of his 414 classes. I wish all teachers were like him, he is outstanding. His humor makes the class fun, and his reading assignments were two of the best books I have ever read. He is fair and is very knowledgeable. He gave excellent essay topics that allow you to do your own thing. I would suggest Mr.Frisbie to everyone!!

Frisbie is tight. Just sit back and listen to his jokes and go home early. I took the 3 hour night class and he lets us leave an hour early. He gives easy in-class assignments and easy quizes. One word of advice, when he grades the essays he only cares about grammer not content. I spent too much time on content and that messed up one of my essays. Otherwise its a good class.

His classes are fun and you will learn a lot. There are about five essays and three journal entries a week that you must turn in at the end of the semester. He is enjoyable and very reasonable.

Michael Frisbie is the best teacher I have ever had. He does more than just teach; he helps you figure out the answer for yourself. This makes what he teaches stick with you and I think it does not get any better than this. He gives you every chance to improve if you are not the best writer and he gives very good advice. I highly recommend him.

I have a very mixed opinion on this professor's teaching style. I consider him a very intelligent and interesting person and enjoyed his (admittedly cynical) sense of humor very much. His class style is more of an informal conversation between the whole class than a lecture, although he may use a different method of teaching for larger classes. Overall I had a lot of fun in his class.
On the other hand, I really didn't learn that much about writing. Even though the purpose of ENG 214 is theoretically to learn how to write an essay, we only wrote four essays the whole semester, and very little class time was spent actually learning about composition. Frisbie always let the students get sidetracked by other subjects (for some reason we talked a lot about snakes), which was a lot of fun, but not very educational. I think a lot of the class's shortcomings were due to poor planning and procrastination on Frisbie's part. He didn't even plan enough time for us to get to one of the books on the sylabus. Thankfully, he was nice enough to pay full price for books students had already bought.
Basically, whether Frisbie is a great teacher or a horrible teacher depends on what your taking the class for. If you are only taking this class because it is required and want it to be as painless as possible, Frisbie is the professor for you. However, if you are taking this class to learn to write better, find another teacher.

What can i say, if you take Prof. Frisbie you will learn, have fun in class and get good grade. Just read the damn short stories so you are prepare when you are in class. That's all. 5 or 6 essays, a journal of 2 or 3 entries every week(collected at the end of the semester) and lots of fun. A very understanding teacher who is always available and happy to see you in his office or any question you have after class.

I disagree with the previous poster's assessment of Michael Frisbie. I had this teacher for Advanced Composition a few years ago, and found him to be interesting, personable and reasonable. I never saw him get angry. We had a good class with interesting discussions; the essay assignments were helpful in developing one's writing skills and his written comments were useful. He does have another job (if his situation is still the same), but I think that gives him a bit of perspective on the world of teaching.
