I also took METR 101 with METR 100 in Spr 03. This is also a very laid-back lab with only 5-6 lab reports due every 1-2 wks. The only thing I didn't like was the TA. Her name is Carrie I believe, she grades really hard.

I took METR 100 during the Spr 03 semester. Dr. Garcia's class is very laid-back, he loves to show images from his laptop in every class. There's no HW, just 2 tests and 1 final.

Teacher is fair and reasonable. There is a ten page paper in this course. Class grade is consist of 3 tests, and one final. Sometimes, he might make one of the tests a take home exam. And the final is problems he would take from the first 3 tests of the semester. He's not a difficult teacher. As long you PAY ATTENTION to your lectures, you should be able to ace the exams. The teacher barely uses the books in the class.

At first, I had very little interst in science and after taking Prof. Garcia's class, my view has totally changed. Prof. Garcia basically lectures out of the book but he does incorporate a lot of information in his lectures that is not in the text. As for the exams, they are VERY easy as long as you take good notes b/c a majority of what he lectures about is on the exams. Same goes for the final. I DO recommend him for those who have little or no interest in science b/c his method of teaching is very simple and comprehensible. His analogies w/food and money makes learning Meteorlogy even easier.

Mr. Garcia is a funny guy. He makes jokes, but no one seem to understand them. He also make analogies between meteorology and food to make the students understand the concept of the weather. He can be funny sometimes! His lectures were easy to follow, but you gotta pay attention and read the chapters. If you don't read what he assigns, then in the lectures, it would be difficult to understand. His tests were easy at first, but later it got difficult. If you pay attention to the lectures, and read the materials, then its definitely an easy A. But that sound so easy, but its hard. If you want to take meteorology, make sure to take Mr. Garcia. He also gives out extra credit opportunities.

Professor Garcia is such a cute round man. He just cracks me up, which is why it makes listening to lectures bearable. At first, the lectures were great and either I was just tired, I don't know, but I found it difficult to pick up on all the main points later on in the semester. You might think just because it's a 100 course that it's easy. This class is certainly not considered a 100 course, but more like 200+. The exams are challenging. You must read over and over again, the chapter material and the notes until you completely understand it to do well on the exams. Outside of class or when speaking to him, he is very approachable and is willing to help you learn the material. I would recommend him, though not if you're expecting an easy-earned grade. You gotta work for it in this class.

Professor Garcia is a nice, funny, alright teacher but grades fairly strict. He does have a passion for meteorology, which makes the lectures bearable. The exams were difficult to study for and hard. There was 10-page minimum research paper assigned and a handful of extra credit. Also, there was hardly any h.w. but plenty of reading and studying.

Dr. Garcia was a decent instructor...his enthusiasm for the subject made the class a little more interesting. However, his exams were a bit confusing especially the short answer questions. The final was pretty easy though because he took questions straight from the previous exams. And he also assigns a lot of extra credit assignments which can help boost your grade a little. On another note, Dr. Garcia can be temperamental. Dont ever let him catch you read a newspaper in his class or anything else other than pay attention to his lectures or you'll chew you out!

Dr. Garcia is the greatest teacher I have had so far at SFSU. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. I don't usually like science classes, but I would take this one again if I could. Great class, a must take.

Dr. Garcia presents meteorology in such an clear and easy way that he gets you to second guess the nightly weatherman forecasts. It's refreshing to take classes from someone that cares that you are learning. I especially like the satellite images he brings in, taken from 24,000 miles above the earth. They are downlinked to his computer throughout the day, so what you are analyzing is practically real-time images of the earth's atmosphere. From a more academic (book reading) standpoint, his lecture topics come from the textbook, you can't get lost. I recommend taking his lecture.
