Velia Garcia

I have taken a few classes from Velia and I find her to be a very good teacher. She cares and sympathisizes with her students and knows what she is teaching. She is a true pioneer of LA RAZA studies. She does have a laid back approach to her class but one can ask anything, give their input at any time and feel comfortable doing so. She encourages class particpation

Velia rarely comes to class because she lives far away and it might rain. Although the topic is Sociology of LA RAZA, this is a class about Mexican Americans. There is no course plan or outline to follow so classes are spent floating from topic to topic. Any student taking her classes should keep copies of everything turned in because she does not save work turned in and things get lost. If you want a class where you don't have to go to class to get your 3 credits, she is the teacher and this is the class for you. If you really want to learn something, wait until another professor is teaching this course.
