This prof needs more exposure!

I can't believe no one has written about what a wonderful instructor Toby is!

He makes a strong effort to ensure that students understand his lectures and chooses the labs accordingly. In addition, he is constantly trying to improve his teaching, and he really cares that you learn the subject.

Toby's expertise in the physical properties of oceans is shown by his enthusiasm for the subject and a relentless pursuit of combining labs and class examples to make difficult concepts more comprehensible. And although this class was an introduction for undergraduates, Toby treated us as scholars who were able to contribute to the field; I always appreciate professors who take this view.

Lastly, taking this class at the Romberg Tiburon Center (RTC) is a bonus. Toby made us feel completely at home in this new environment, and opened up his own lab for our assignments. Furthermore, we were invited to hear lectures held at the RTC and could hike or tour the surrounding area. Co-teaching with Prof. William Cochlan was one of the best experiences I've had at this institution. This is definitely one of those great "low-key" classes that one should not miss!
