Kristen Gates

This is a management class. you learn theories on how to use the web for marketing. The class always lasted far longer than it was suppose to. hw never get graded. you have to learn the technical skills on your own (which the teacher has stated and she meant it.) although computer skills are required in this class but many students got away with it. this made the group work very difficult. the group projects turned out to be one person work.

Ms. Gates has a lot to teach students. Many of the students in this class have not been prepared to spend long hours at the computer, creating Web sites. It is the type of class where students have to be very self motivated to read, research, and build web sites. Many of the concepts taught in Gates' class are concepts used in Web page layout and design. This class is primarily for seniors. However, Gates has allowed lower level students to take it. This unfortunately for them is not good. Many non-seniors don't have the emotional maturity to function properly in this class. Also, the community service part of this class is a wonderful component to the class. Certainly, there are improvements that need to take place in the class, however. They are minor, and I'm sure Gates will make them.

Kristen Gates is an outstanding instructor. She is very Web literate and has strong design techniques. The textbook is excellent and she uses it as a reference to the course assignments and forces the students to read and understand the contents. Muchof the classtime is spent working on projects and critiquing other projects and web sites so that we could enhance our own skills. One of her strongest points is her dedication not only to the subject but to her students. She is patient and understanding and is willing to help in any way she can. I would highly recommend her.

Ms. Gates is a great teacher with insights to website management and web development. She has great insights into the concept of printmedia vs. webmedia. The on-hands teaching styles is great because she makes you change your web page every lesson. The concept of doing web projects for non-profit is a great idea because often student don't go out into the communities and do volunteer work. This way they get experience with non-profit and community work and is able to give something back.
