Joanne Gearring

Truly a genius. Joanne's core knowledge of Thelonious Sphere Monk's carefully articulated and expressive keyboard style in particular, is impressive. But her well honed general knowledge of such luminaries as Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver as well as present day revolutionaries is no less so. However her lectures are a bit dry, surprising considering the radical nature of the material covered and the ideas therein. I found her exams to contain "fair", but her grading to be a bit severe; perhaps this was to counteract the tendency instructors have to be lenient when grading essay format exams,given it's subjective nature. I highly recommend this course to ALL students--I can guarantee you will never hear "Misterioso" or "Epistrophy" quite the same again!
