An Excellent Professor !

Prof Gill teaches the latest technology in class. His lectures in ISYS 812 and 814 provide a solid base for IS Consulting as well as learning exciting new technical skills. He is always there to support and guide students. He is very pragmatic, and therefore is able to offer excellent advise to students when they are confused. He is always focussed on making the student learn to the maximum extent, and encourages students a lot, for good work done. If you email him a question, you are almost certain to get a reply within 10 min, anytime of the day.

He is probably the best we have got in ISYS.

An average teacher

I am amazed by other reviews about Dr. Gill!!? perhaps he USED TO TEACH well in the past but not anymore. Although I got an A- in his class I did not learn anything from him. You will be better off if you buy one of those teach yourself manuals and learn on your own. Don't expect too much from him.If you are a BICS major take this class with Sayeed.

Dr Gill is extemely knowledgeable in his subject matter. Unfortunatley, he is also moody and at times not very personable; if you are too sensitive, the class may not be for you. You learn a lot in his class but it is a very frustrating experience. Take him though not Bhimjee.

Dr. Gill is an excellent professor who I met in BICS department. He knows every single detail of the subject matter which he talks about during the class. He is a very reasonable professor to work with. If you are planning to take his class, I will guarntee that you will learn a lot from him in term of IT theories and real business examples. Dr. Gill always (about 90% of time) responds e-mail in a very timely basis, usually in 5-10 minutes. If he is available, I would like to work with him on my graudation thesis. (I got an A- in BA814 and A in BICS864)

Professor Gill is one of the BEST BICS teachers at state. His teaching manner is totally hands on and helps students relate to the subject matter better. I think his rapport with the students is exemplary. Also, I love the way he handles problem students. He is firm without being crude and takes control of the class with ease. I highly recommend him to students of all majors.

This is the best class I have taken at SFSU. Dr. Gill's lectures are clear and concise, and best of all, up to the moment. Assignments require you to research and write cogently about very current topics, no wasting time learning outdated software, etc.

He can be a bit abrupt at times with students, so the sensitive beware!

You will be very lucky if you are taught by this man. I don't know anyone who has met him that hasn't been amazed at how brilliant he is. He can be very abrasive in class on occasion but he is definately interested in helping you learn. He is current on everything going on in the IT industry and is a great asset to this school. Don't take him if you're thin-skinned but if you're interested in learning about IT- he's the one

His exams are generally short answer. He expects a lot from projects/presentations....asthetics are important.

Prof. Sam Gill is a very approachable professor and is one of the few, whom I would think of as a insightful and resourceful professor. His approach to this class is a very pragmatic approach. He explains clearly and has no problem communicating ideas and expectations skilfully. His expectations are high but attainable. He is also sensitive to problems faced by students and would make certain adjustments if necessary when students encounter problems. His superior understanding of the topic matter means that he can come up with a different and possibly easier approach to solving a particular problem. Overall, I feel that he should become the coordinator for all programming classes taught by the business department because of his ability to communicate the core items of the subject.
