Sugie is the greatest english instructor I ever had. I learn a lot from her. Even though it's only a remedial class I took from her, I can see she is very dedicate to the teaching. Her lecture are interesting and easily understood. An A+ for her personality because it feels comfortable to make discussion with her. I highly recommend this professor if you want to boost your writing skill.

Sugie is one of the most committed instructors I've encountered anywhere. She is demanding, but that's because she cares about the issues involved very much. She is always extremely well-prepared for class and finds ways to make extremely difficult material understandable and interesting. I think we're lucky that she's at State and not some ivory tower institution.

Sugie is one of the best instructors I have worked with in this or any program. She does hold students to higher standards than some of the comp instructors, especially some of the ones here at State; this means that you should expect to do some real work in her classes, but the work is fascinating and worth the effort if you are interested in the major issues of the field. If you aren't ready for that, and you are just starting the comp program, you might want to consider a different focus.

While Sugie Goen demonstrate enthuasism and competence inside the composition program, she does her students a severe diservice by *never* making her expectations *fully* clear. As experienced by many of my fellow students in the master series, she continually changed her expectations of the student depending on whatever was going through her head at the moment. Be prepared for grief and frustration in the 700 and 890 series. My advice to you if you are interested in a master degree in composition is to get the degree elsewhere, but take the certificate program--657,704, 716--as those courses are extremely applicable for teaching at the community college level. If you doubt my words just take a moment to return to one of your own past dysfunctional relationships and then imagine if that person were to be your boss, standing at the gatway of your future career. Once you can imagine the horror, you will be in a good position to imagine what you are in for.

S. Goen is a good teacher. She says, "Hate me now, thank me later!" and I have to say, it's true. I was already very good in English before I took the class, so most of it was review for me, but for others, I think she really helped them quite a bit. She is energetic and well-liked.
