Professor Goetz knows the material, but lacks the communication ability to get the points across in a clear and easily understood manner. I basically wound up teaching myself this course, although I went to class every time. He relies heavily on computerized technology to teach instead of typical hand-outs or chalk and chalkboard. He thinks incredibly fast and teaches at nearly the same speed. Often, this leads to confusion and inability to keep up with the material he's presenting. However, his tests are clear and fair and the homework demands are minimal and easy to complete.

professor goetz is brilliant, and has a lot of information to share. however i'm sure that he assumes that everyone is on the same level and doesn't meet the needs of the class. he creates a highly competitive environment in the class.

If you are a math major perhaps you'll like Goetz more, but as a Biology major continuing off from a AP Calculus class here's my view: I can tell he's passionate about math, but his passion made me feel left behind. He tried very hard to integrate computers into the course, which I strongly believe should have been saved for the next class up or comp classes. He over-used the Mathematica program which led to frequent technical problems. This took our time and made him look silly. When computer programs need to be used, that would mean the topic is already understood, but if we're just learning it, computers tend to let the important details go.

If I could describe Dr. Goetz with one word, it would be AMAZING! I have had Dr. Goetz as my professor for three different math classes, and I cant't think of anything negative to say about him or his teaching. Dr. Goetz is a young, enthusiastic, and vibrant professor who has never delivered a boring lecture. He has interestingly incorporated technology to aid in instruction and in the learning process of the students. In the beginning, I was afraid of and disliked calculus. After having Dr. Goetz for Calculus I & II, I now like and enjoy it. Dr. Goetz's classes are very organized. His exams are based on assigned homework, so if you do the homework, you'll be fine on the exams. He's always humble in class, and he always welcomes questions. Where in other classes you might be scared to ask your professor questions in class, here is not the case. He provides excellent feedback, and he makes sure you understand. Another plus is that he will run that extra mile for his students to assist them in learning and understanding of the material. He's always available during office hours, he stays extra if needed, and he's excellent on returning emails asap... I could go on and on about the goods of Dr. Goetz; that's how excellent he is. But I will end by recommending him for everyone.

Dr. Goetz is a pretty good teacher. He tries to explain everything clearly, and he knows when to slow down. He is very open to questions, no matter how dumb they are. He gives homework every day, to be collected (and graded) once a week. Sometimes the problems get hard, but you can always ask him to explian it. His tests are straight from the homework. They can be hard, especialy if you don't study enough. We had quizzes once a week, and they were pretty simple. Overall he seems like a nice guy. His lectures tend to get pretty boring at the end, but he videotapes all of them (at least in our class) so you can always go back and look at the lecture. Good Teacher.

If you want to understand fully the material - I mean fully - then this is the right teacher. The course was slow at times but that gave enough time to absorb anything that I didn't know that I didn't understand. He was able to cover more material, i.e. chapters than most other math professors. Don't take him for granted. This school is extremely fortunate to have him.

This professor can make you want to major in math and can even reach the students that were dreading the class. He is young and very enthusiastic.
Two midterms, one final, the two best of which are worth 25% and the lowest is worth 20%. The final was not cumulative. Exam questions were very fair and tested you on the fundementals, not trying to trick you. There were even extra credit problems on the exams.
Homework counted a lot and was collected every week. Just the right number of problems to make sure you knew the material.
The lectures were very clear. He uses powerpoint from his laptop and the about half of the lectures were available on video on the web, and all the powerpoints were on his website, which let me tell you was a blessing when it came time to study for exams. He uses a lot of animation and real player stuff to bring the material in the textbook to life and made things a lot more clear than the explainations in the book. He always stopped for questions and took the time to answer you thoroughly. He would give extra credit points to add to your final grade for the class if you were brave enough to get up in front of the class and take the first attempt at trying to work through a new concept that we hadn't covered yet and seeing if you could find the approach to the problem.
This is the guy to take.

Professor Goetz is probably one of the best professors I've ever had in any subject. He obviously shows a great interest in what he's teaching because he really shows much enthusiasm in it. He is very helpful in addressing students' concerns, and he replies to his emails in a very timely manner. His exams are very fair, in my opinion. He gives 2 midterms, and on finals week, he gives another one, which is not comprehensive. Your two best exams are worth 25% while the other one is worth 20%. Also, he gave us an extra credit problem which allowed us to think more in depth about the material we were learning, and this helps to exercise a student's understanding of the material. Any student who has felt that math was a difficult subject will change their mind once taking this professor's class. So if you need to take a certain math course, and he just so happens to be teaching it, TAKE HIS CLASS!!! You'll actually like the subject material. Plus, he's an awesome person to talk to also. He's NOT AT ALL COCKY like other professors can be. Also, he's a young professor, which may make it easier for many students to relate to him. If you are the type to ask a lot of questions in class without feeling belittled, Arek Goetz is the way to go.

Professor Goetz is an outstanding teacher who excels in all aspects. His lectures emphasize conceptual understanding and cover a wide range of problems. His projects are mildly challenging, but he is willing to provide assistance. He is humble and, in spite of his expertise, never looks down on anyone. I would recommend any student to take a mathematics course with him.
