BORE SNORE...

I can't remember a time when i could actually stay awake during his lectures. By all means, haase isn't a bad teacher, it's just that he speaks in monotone and makes his lectures very boring. I took his class like last semester and i had the hardest time in his class. I honestly went to most of his classes, read the book and paid attention during class, and didn't understand his lectures. I had the hardest time keeping up with what he was doing. His exams are really hard but his assignments aren't that bad. I don't know if it's just me, but haase is really tough, so if you can handle a hard course, then by all means, take it, if not....STAY AWAY!

you will learn or else!!!!!

I took this class two years ago and have scence gone on to take econ 101. This class is very hard and if you are in it for an A do not take this teacher. if you can and will study you can pass; But his quizes on Fridays make the chances to get a good grade very slim. My class started out with over one hundred and fifty people less than seventy five took the final. If you plan on going on into economics you will learn alot or you will not pass. i got a B in econ 101 and did not work nearly as hard as i did for the C for the i got in 100.

good luck

I liked him

Haase is a tough but fair teacher. The class is alot of work but what isn't if your planning to learn. He has quizzes every Friday based on material IN CLASS, so if you miss a class make sure you get the notes from someone who took everything he wrote on the board. The tests were tough, but manageable. He likes people to be on time since he has a pretty big commute himself(little room for excuses) but he keeps his lectures straightforward and throws in some humor here and there.

Grueling schedule.

Haase is a very demanding teacher. There is a quiz every Friday based on material cover before that time. A lot of information is given out during lecture and you must process a lot of chapters of the book every week. This class with Haase is extremely fast paced. If you can understand the material and keep up to speed you should be no problem, but be forewarned most students got a C, and there were more Fs than As.

Great Teacher

Prof. Haase lectures were interesting and informative. He tried to make the lectures humorous and something the students could relate to by giving simple every day examples of economic concepts. He tried to answer any question raised in class and treated students with respect. He was never condescending! His homework assignments and test review questions were tough, but they really helped you learn about macroeconomics. What impressed me most is that when I emailed him questions about the course material, he actually replied within a short amount of time! Overall, I think Prof. Haase is a conscientious professor who cares that his students really learn and UNDERSTAND the material about which he's lecturing.

U learn... u learn in this class...

This guy is good, but you will have to work for your grade. I learned so much in his class. He describes difficult concepts and explains problems if needs be. He is very interested in teaching this class and also wants others to be interested in this class as well. He seems to be interested in the student's learning of the material, but since this was a lecture of 400-600 people, he couldnt really do much for you if you were'nt too involved. he gives much homework and gives quizes every friday. but other than those "high school" like nuances, he is a good teacher.

i would take him again.

Too serious and too demanding

This class required A LOT of work. You need to attend all the lectures, cause he gives you a quiz once/week. He doesn't follow the book so take good notes. The final is cumulative, and preparing for it took a lot of time. I didn't expect this much work for an intro class. He can be annoying - he insists on keeping you in class til the last second every time, even if he doesn't have anything important to say. He will make an issue if you start packing 10 sec early... dude, relax.

Hard teacher but very fair

He is a very difficult prof. However, if you show improvement and the desire to learn he will be there to support you. I earned a D in his class but due to my improvement from the midterm to the final he gave me a C. Spent many hours in his office reviewing the material.

Great teacher...

I think Prof. Haase is an excellent teacher. His way of teaching allows you to easily grasp the material he explains. However, I DO think that how well you do in this class is partly based on your interest in Economics (as with most subjects this is true). I personally find the subject very interesting. The quizzes every Friday is just a method of preparing the students and not allow them to fall behind on material. His knowledge is quite amazing.

An OK class

The exams are pretty tough. They cover a lot of material, are almost all essay questions, and you really have to know the material well because he is pretty picky about what he is looking for in an answer. Although I will say that if you read the textbook and pay attention in lecture, he does cover all the material for the exams in lecture. He gives sample questions, that if you can answer well, they will prepare you pretty well for the exams and you should do fine. This is a class that you do have to go to lecture because he often covers material differently than the textbook, especially calculation problems.

The textbook is pretty corny and be prepared to read over and over again about how e-commerce and the "cyber-world" are changing economics, banking, business, etc...

Prof. Haase has a very dry sense of humor and likes to make witty jokes in class that I though were pretty intelligent but others found less funny.

A little effort should get you a B, but you'll get worked for an A.

Haase is a good teacher

Haase is a good teacher. He knows his stuff very well. Although many complain that he doesn't review or not care about his student, I think the student must be responsible also. He is always in his office during office hour, and if you have any question, he would be there to help out. He is not an easy teacher, but if you work hard and read the book , you should be able to pass for sure.

Good instructor but tough!

Prof. Haase is tough! He gives weekly quizes (every Friday), 2 tests, and a final. The final exam is comprehensive. He's a good instructor but a little bit nit-picky in my opinion when it comes to the way he grades. He's well organized and knows the subject matter but I think he moves to fast over some of the difficult parts. He has a good website and provides practice tests and the answers to all the quizes. I would recommend him but if you're looking for an easy grade forget it, you have to work for your grade.

an "A" instructor!

Professor Haase is one of the best instructors I have ever encountered. One of the reasons why is because he challenges his students to work hard to earn good grades, as opposed to giving easy A's. From reading the previous reviews, it seems that the students who gave Prof. Haase a bad grade felt that the class was too difficult, or that he expected too much out of an intro GE class.

I along with others who have had the priviledge of being Prof. Haase's students enjoy the challenge and appreciate the fact that he treats us like college students instead of grade-schoolers. No one ever said college was supposed to be easy. If it was, we'd all spend no more than four years on our degrees and graduate with honors.

Attending class is a must! If you miss a class, chances are you've missed crucial material for upcoming exams. However, if you're like me and some of my classmates, you won't want to miss class and will look forward going to class, for Prof. Haase's lectures are very organized and interesting.

When I took the class Fall '99, there were two midterms and a final, and a quiz weekly, except on the weeks when there was an exam. There were twelve quizzes, each worth twenty-five points, but he'll only divide by ten quizzes when doing the quiz average, which means it's possible to earn extra points. The quizzes and two midterms are each worth twenty percent of one's grade, and the cummulative final is worth forty percent. Also, passing the final is crucial in order to pass the class, BUT acing the final will also mean acing the class.

Prof. Haase is an extremely fair instructor. College students who attend class, take good notes, and spend time to study outside of class, as college students should do for any class, will do just fine. I recommend Professor Haase to responsible students, whom I guarantee will enjoy the class and learn a lot about economics as well.

Thinking of cutting class? Not this one!

Basically, if you're planning on cutting a lot, don't take this class, but if you're there for every class, pay attention! It's definitely worth going every day, but only if you take good notes and absorb what you see and hear. Half of the quizzes were fairly easy, while the others were way out there. Study time definitely reflects on midterms and the final exam, so it'd be smart not to slack off at any time. As an instructor, Mr. Haase takes the time out to help you along with any problems and conveys the material in an organized manner, though not always clear. However, he uses great examples and his humor adds light to the course. He's fair, he's professional, and he knows what he's talking about.

Pro. Charles Hasse is one of the greatest teachers I have. He is so organized on his lecture. His the kind of teacher that will make it easier for you to learn. The only problem is, he is so tricky on his exams but it's not a big problem because he will prepare you for it. So if you want a teacher who is funny, nice, effective or even cute then take his class.

Mr. Haase has got to be the coolest teacher I have ever had. He makes attending class interesting as well as exciting. I am a bit baffled by his hot dog stand stories however they get his point across. He is a very difficult teacher but you are guaranteed to learn. If you attend class every day and read the assigned chapters you will more then likely pass. Any bonehead who can read can pass his class. The only people who are bitching about him being such a hard ass are those who expect to go to class and earn the "complimentary C" they feel they are entitled to. If you have to take Econ. take Haase, he is cool.

Professor Haase is the best teacher I've had so far at San Francisco State. His class is challenging, with quizzes each week, two tough midterms, and a final. He does expect you to motivate yourself and study, come to class, and do your own work. This is college, so I don't think that's unreasonable. Also, he makes himself available to students with extra questions in his office hours. If you do take advantage of that, he will patiently help with any additional instruction you need. What I appreciated most was that he is interested in making you work.

Charlie Haase is definetely one of the best prepared teachers in this school. Keep in mind that in order to pass his class you need a lot of hard work. You will have quizes every week, but don't let that scare you. His quizes are from his lectures. So if you study just his lectures you'll do just fine. And having quizes every week is the only way of making us to study each material, and not have them all piled up befor the midterm. He makes sure you understand the basic concepts in economics. Excellent teacher!

Haase is cool. He's difficult, but if you do your work, keep up with the reading, attend his lectures (all of them), take good notes, you'll do fine. His quizzes, I thought, were really helpful, b/c it kept you up to date, instead of cramming before an exam. He's organized, really knows his economics and he's young, too. He has a distinct sort of humor, but it makes the class more fun that way. I just think he's a great teacher and he tries to make his class really apply to your life. Though I'm not an Econ major, I'm glad I took this class. Get ready to hear a lot about Cheez-It's and Hot Dogs.

Professor Haase is undoubtedly the best professor I have had. Instead of treating us like children, he consistently treats us as reasoning beings. I can think of no higher praise for him than that provided in the other reviews listed herein which give him rather low grades because a) he expects us to attend class [the horror!], b) he doesn't tell us exactly what is on the exam before we take it [the cruelty!], c)he asks questions that require more than us to simply spit back at him something he said in class [the injustice!]and d) (my personal favorite) he actually tested us on 7 (seven!) chapters of material [the inhumanity!]. In all, it is readinly apparent that the majority of students at this school are complete morons. So, my advice is, if you are a complete moron, don't take a class with Professor Haase--find a prof who will treat you like the mental incompetent you are. But, if you are someone who actually belongs in college, I can think of no prof at this school from whom you will learn more.

Dr. Haase is a very good and knowledgeable instructor. He definitely knows economics like the back of his hand and you will definitely learn a lot in his class. The minuses are he has a very complicated quiz on his material every week come hell or high water his midterms are hard and he rarely reviews or lets you know what is going to be on them so you are stuck playing the guessing game as to what is important to know and study for. You also have to pass the final in order to pass his class. He throws out your lowest two quiz scores only and if you miss more than one day of class you will be lost beyond hope. If you are an econ major I say take his class if not take it with someone else. I barely passed his class with a C and get A's in my other classes.

I think Haase is a very smart and organized professor. However, he is a very VERY difficult professor. I think I learned something from him but he tends to talk a lot and it makes you a little sleepy so it's hard to concentrate in his class. He doesn't really explain in detail what his notes talk about and his quizzes and tests are worded differently from his lectures. His class is very difficult for a 100 level. I suggest that if you are not a business major or an econ major...DO NOT TAKE IT AS A G.E. CLASS!!! Well..even if you ARE a business major...don't sign up for him unless you know for sure you can get an A on his final to pass his class. (which i hope and pray i got at least CLOSE to an A on MY final!)

he is very straight forward with what he wants you know. His notes are very good. i like the way he turns concepts into everyday examples we can relate to . There is no homework other than reading. you have 2 mid terms and a final. if you get a A on the final you get a A in the class! my one knock is that i wish he would word his questions on his weekly quizzes and midterms the way he does in his lectures. he tends to change the way he ask the questions , which can be some what confusing. but other than that i think he's cool!

Haase is a young teacher that thinks he has to prove something by making a 100 level class as hard as possible. he does not review for test, and his test are totally different from his lectures. If you are not an Econ major do not take this class. He also gives a quiz every friday and during the quiz he talks so you loose concentration. I truly beleive he is evil.

Mr. Haase is a good professor and I recommend you to take one of his classes when taking your GE (ECON 100). For a review which I have just read regarding to Prof. Haase's is very much "incorrect," he always go over the last meeting day's lecture to summarize that class then he continues with what is to be lecture for the day. Also, the day before the midterm he DOES go over the material which he has cover of everyday topics. If you did not attend the class, it's your own lost. Don't blame the teacher for not going over what you want to hear because he gave many changes to ask questions...and this goes for the student that gave him a C review.

He's a really good teacher who review all the stuff the student need to know. He uses the whole hours to lecture the stuff very clearly and wrote down the things we need on our notes. The lecture before exam, he reviews everything that we need to know on the test. Five minutes before class he will go over the notes that he lecture in the last class. I think he's a very very good teacher who lecture well and gives us times to ask wuestion.

I think that Hasse is somewhat hard teacher with his quizzes every Friday. But you do learn alot from his class. I leanred that although he gives you quizzes every friday. You learn the materials better because of those quizzes. When it comes to mid-terms all you have to do is review your notes. He is very good lecturer because he writes down everything he says on the board. All you have to do is copy what he writes and study off of it. I think that he makes the subject intresting with his jokes and the "hot dog" stand that he owns and sell hot dogs in the summer in Sacramento. He uses his hot dog stand experince to teach his students about economics. Although somethimes his jokes are lame. I think overall he is a good teacher if you like to be challenged.

Mr. Hasse never uses real life examples in his lectures. On the weeks that we have exams, never is there are review of any sort. This is not required by the professors' but it would really help us the students out. Five minutes before class he always starts up with a new problem. This confuses many of the students. We never have time to finish what he has started nor does he ask us if we understand what he is doing. We feel like we are being interigated by him if we do make mention that we don't follow.
