Professor Halbe is only ok, not wonderful, not great. She does have the tendency to be anal at times. The projects we had to do for her class was fun, but she is too picky when she comes to grading them. Sometimes some projects that I thought were my overall best got a 4 out of 6. However, she's always there whenever you need to ask questions and does her best to reply to them.

I took her class spring '01... and I went to class each morning wondering if I was actually going to learn something NEW that day.
A lot of people taking her class are really friendly and creative- you'll be inspired by the other students if not by her.
If you're not carefull, you'll end up spending wayyy too much on materials etc for her class.
I don't remember her ever really lecturing to us. But the projects she assigned were fun...working on them was all I basically remember about her class.
The key thing is to pay attention to due dates....she acts anal when it comes to turning anything late, unless of course you've had some kind of tragedy going on to prevent you from turning something in.
I think it'd help a lot if she made a calendar of due dates etc and actually stuck to them. Yes, knowing the due dates is ultimately your own responsibility...but she could have helped by being understanding of how a college student's time isn't only for her class.

On the contrary to the review written before mines, I thought Halbe was a very good teacher. I took a Saturday section of CFS240 so the classes were long since we only met once a week and projects/assignments were due every Sat. It was an ongoing cycle and the class was very intense, but Halbe made it fun. She offered feedback about our work and aided us during class. She was also available to meet with us about your assignments if we had any problems. On the last day of class, she surprised us with food! She bought the class lots of food! It is true that there's a lot material & supplies we have to get for the class in order to do the projects. But all CFS240 classes are like that so it's not just Halbe's class. Overall, I enjoyed the class and the projects were fun too. If you're someone who don't have an interest in art or don't like ongoing projects, don't take the class or you'll be like that big baby venting in the review.
