This is a hard class!!!

He's an average teacher. He has an accent and it's sometimes hard to understand him. His class is based on 3 tests and a final (the final is not comprehensive). He changes the grading scale to how well the class is doing. Or he would add points to everyone's test if the whole class did below the expected average. He doesn't give out a lot of homework, nor does he collect the homework. I would advise people who take his class to actually go to class. Many times he uses his own example problems from class on his exams and only changing the numbers. He also does this with the homework problems he assigns. He doesn't give out tricky problems like other finance teachers do. But this is a hard class in general, so studying and attending class is a must!!!

Pretty Good Teacher

At first I thought this was an easy, basic quantitive class, but I was wrong. In order to do well in his class, you need some serious studying! Especially if you're taking his summer class like I did. He covered nearly the entire book and only skipped 2 chapters (All in a month). It can get VERY overwhelming. He also talks quickly when he lectures, so it is imperative to pay attention during class. He gives two midterms and a non-comprehensive final, 25 m/c questions and problems. His exams are based on his lectures and homework and he allows a page of notes. His exams consists of quantitive problems and only a few conceptual questions. Your final grade is based on the midterms and final. He doesn't grade on a curve, but he has a really low grading criteria, so don't sweat. He is rather indifferent about what he teaches, but he knows his stuff, and he's always willing to answer questions in class. Overall, studying the notes and doing the HW is the key to passing His class.

Good concept teacher w/ zero student relations

Dr. Han is a very intelligent man. He has his degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and worked on Wall Street as a derivatives trader. This class was a 7 on a scale of 1-10 when it comes to difficulty. It is very important to take excellent notes. Most of the exam problems come from the notes. We had three MC test's which take the whole class period to complete. It is important to do the assigned homework as well. Do not bother reading the book it is a waste of time. The only complaint I have about this professor is that he really is uninterested and unavailable. Everytime I asked him a question or wanted to know about careers in finance I felt like I was bugging him. He jets right after class and I mean before most of the students. If you dont want to teach and get involved then do something else. Nonetheless, the class was pretty easy.

Calculator for sales for his Fin. 350 !!!

I have a complaint on the classroom. For Sp 02, Fin 350 class is located on the 4th flr of the TH. The classroom has windows but mostly those window can't be widely opened. I am a heat sensitive person. I feel this classroom should be remodeled.

As far as for the class itself, Han is a very soft speakers. Only those front seats can be heard excellent, otherwise you can only hear his mumble. His speaking skill is great.

Finance is a hard subject and he tries to simplify the lecture. He shows you how to do the problems step by step. I think it's great, but you have to do the assigned homework in order to pass the class. Otherwise, you will waste your time. He has 2 term exams and 1 comprehensive final.

I think peer support with other students are essential, since difficult homework and lack of pressure to do homework are key issues for failing students. For me, I do find peer support is a good way to keep me motivated to study for this class.

I think he is as good as it gets. No other instructors can be this straght forward and pass this class with a low score.

Good Luck

Grade: A

Dr. Han is a fairly new teacher, and he has the distinction of being the first teacher of mine who actually finishes the textbook. We went through ALL the chapters! To do this, of course, Dr. Han must lecture very quickly. He has a strong accent, but he speaks well. He explains well, too, but understandably expects students to have the math background that class calls for.

His grading scale starts at 90% for an A, and then goes down 5% for every grade (including plus and minus). So, as hard as FIN 350 might be, you only flunk if you get less than 40%.

There are three multiple-choice Scantron tests during the semester, each worth a third of your grade. The first two are not comprehensive, but about a third of the last on is. Each test includes extra credit questions worth about 15 points total. The extra credit questions are no harder than the others, and can really help your grade. But make no mistake - the tests are fair but VERY challenging!

He does not have the ability to teach.

The instructor could not articulate his points of view and could not answer students questions thoroughly. Yet, his exam questions required you to know everything he had covered in class. I did not learn anything from his class. Most of the things that I have learned were from reading the text book and from taking other courses. His lecture was immensely boring. He would go on and on regardless of whether the students understood his lecture or not. He showed no concerns about students' confusions and frustrations. Moreover, he assumed that everyone knew some of the materials from his lecture, and so he either ignored those points or just briefly covered them.
