Dr. Harrison obviously operates on a different (read higher) intellectual level than the public at large, or even the average Philosophy major. Dr. Harrison's ultra-laid back approach is so soft that he is completely unphased when students leave his class without explaination. He doesn't seem to have lesson plans, the textbook (which he is the author of) has many typos or important pieces missing and the exams (only 2!) allow for much confusion given the lack of in class examples and non-descript homework assignments. Dr. harrison has a sense of humor, but when students in his class have completely blank expressions before during and after his quips, he doesn't seem to acknowledge it. As was mentioned previously, take PHIL 205 only if you are a major, but don't worry too much, because he's pretty light on grading...I don't know how I got a B+!

Harrison is indeed a very nice man, and I always felt bad as people openly got up and walked out of his class in the middle of a lecture, but I could hardly blame them. If you are a philosophy major this class is required, and I believe he is the only teacher who teaches it. I hope for you that you have a good TA.
The main problem of the class is that it appears that he comes to class with no lesson plan. This is essentially a math class with no organization. I couldn't follow the lectures at all.
I only recomend this class if it a requirement, it is boring beyond description. Furthermore he lost multiple students finals.

I gave Prof. Harrison an A because he is such a kindhearted man it seemed unfair that his reviews were so bad. While he isn't the greatest teacher I have had, I did learn quite a bit in his class. If you just attend class every week and do the assigned reading you will get a good grade and learn something in the process.

Prof. Harrison is a very nice person. He really knows his stuff, but I felt a little lost for the first few weeks of class. Maybe it's the material, but it is probably just his teaching style. He taught me Basic Logic and I had the same problem. If it wasn't for the book, it would have been hopeless. Same for the seminar. Just keep up with the readings. Things will become clear as the class progresses. He is eager to discuss the material with you if you are having difficulty. You just need to schedule an appointment with him. However, he sometimes forgets to show up, maybe as a result of quantum fluctuation.

I have never had a more frustrating experience as a philosopy student as a did trying to understand this man. He manages to take extremely simple pedagogical material and turn it into a conundrum. Every time I tried to come for help, he only managed to confuse me even more, going everytime at the answer every what which way besides the straight path and never ensuring that i understood the material. he seems very strange, like the way his brain owrks is beyond the reach of normal human beings. that may be good for a philosopher, but (especialy to someone who needs to intimate information for their eduacational path) for a philosophy teacher it is detrimental. I bailed from the class at the last minute out of fear of no other recourse but a low grade or even worse not receiving the knowledge. Because he is the only logic teacher in the program, i had to take private study with anolther proffessor to recieve the necessary credits for my degree.

Dr. Harrison is an interesting character. He seems to be kind hearted. His teaching styles are very laid back without a concrete curriculum. The information was also interesting, but a little difficult to understand without background knowledge on Physics. The class is worth taking as long as you make a strong effort to stay attentive during his lectures.

This teacher is very kind and nice. The only drawback that he has is his deep and monotonous voice. If you are motivated enough to get good grades and able to stay awake (not to lose focus) during the lecture with bringing snack or something else to drink and to munch on, then I think you will do very well in his class.

I liked and enjoyed the reading in this class. Very interesting! This class, if I remember correctly, had a midterm and a final that was essay form with several questions (in class). I would have liked a take home exam better because I don't think I had enough time to convay my knowledge of the subject. The class could have been greatly improved for me if there was a course reader to substitute for class notes, as I had trouble taking notes and did not bother. Dr Harrison seems to have a vast knowledge of the sciences like mathematics and physics. His lecture may seem drab though as he has a monotone voice.
