Did someone say boring? Yep... The book is poorly written, the lectures will put you to sleep. Yan has a very monotonous voice so bring a couple of "Red Bull"s to class to stay awake. Skipping class does not work as at least half of her exam problems and questions come from her lectures. If you miss a class at least get solutions to her slide problems and discussions. Her tests are weighted heavily on multiple choice, therefore missing 1 question will cost you 2%. He has been teaching this class for quite some time and has not changed the book yet. Well it is time...business world has progressed but her curriculum has not. As 99.9% of Finance faculty in this school He does not have any "real world" experience that she can bring to the table and add something to a very dry material. Take it if you have to, if not take Yuli Su.

i took this class in Spring 2002.
Format of the class
Midterm 1 - 30% Midterm 2 - 30% Final exam - 35% Participation - 5%
There are 3 extra credit homeworks which are optional. i suggest you do them for extra points. (you can copy the answers directly available from the reserve book room as Professor He. doesnt even look at ur answers)
There is an optional case presention which you can do. Its totally optional and if you do it, you can drop either ur Midterm 1 or Midterm 2. (you score alot higher in the presentation even if you didnt do a good job overall).
He exams are 30MCQ and 4-5 short problem questions. the MCQ are very tricky (and comes out directly from the lecture slides). The long questions are pretty easy becuase she gives you a midterm review sheet and she tells you which questions to study. She may or may not give the exact same question, but it will be pretty similar, i.e. she only changes the figures. Best of all, you are alloweed to bring One cheat sheet with models, formulas and notes.
Otherwise, she is a good teacher - speaks to fast though. She doesnt mark the paper on a curve, so to get like a B in the class, you need an aggregate of 82% above.
Goodluck!

She should not teach a graduate class, she is weak. Think twice before taking her class. Her tests are so stupid, as well as her case studies. You won't learn a shit from this class.

Looks like I am the first one to review Prof He. COME ON PEOPLE, DON'T JUST READ THE REVIEWS, START ENTERING YOUR REVIEWS AS WELL!!! It definately helps out your fellow classmates. =)
Anyways, I was worrying whether she was a good teacher because NOBODY posted a review for her. Thankfully, because of my other finance classmates, they said she is pretty cool. For her summer term, unfortunately, she only taught the first half of this course, because another professor had take her place in the second half. So I only got to listen to her lectures for only 2 weeks before the midterm. The other teacher, Chen, isn't that good (look at his reviews).
The Grading scale for the summer session: Class Participation (1st half) 10% Midterm exam 40% Class Participation (2nd half) 10% Final exam 40%
No projects for the summer!! That's cool. The Class Participation is easy, because I heard that if you speak just once (like one sentence) in front of the class, you get the easy 10% (just for the summer of course). Although so far, I don't know about the 2nd half for Chen... The textbook (no need to buy one or the case study) is not really require to study for the exam because 90-95% of the multiple choice (40 questions) is based on her powerpoint lecture notes. So her mid-term exam is really quite simple. However, if you are stuck with Chen, you may want to keep the book and read it because Chen cannot teach well.
Well..., I hope this review will help out future finance students.
