Josh is probably the most caring professor I've had at SFSU. While his lectures can be a bit dry at times, he genuinely wants to interest and interact with the students. If you're willing to speak up and work through any difficulties you might be having with projects or material in the class, Josh is more than willing to work with you until you get it. Anyone that's interested in Audio Production courses should try to take at least one class with Dr. Hecht. You'll learn a lot from him, and you'll gain a friend.

Josh Hecht gives the same lecture for weeks in a row. His advanced classes don't have an organized syllabus. His lectures consist of him reading out of manuals. He insists students use terms that are sometimes wrong. You cannot discuss this with him as he doesn't want to hear it. He just wants you to talk about things his way even if you know it is wrong. He is very knowledgable about audio in general and recording but not about new technology. He will not let his students use new pro tools workstations recently bought because he is afraid we will break it. You are better off reading manuals yourself than taking his classes as you will get the same access to equipment that way.

Dr. Hecht is probably one of the most caring professors on campus. If you need extra help, he is always there and is all too willing to go completely out of his way to help you. The best advantage is that if you are willing to make it known that you exist, it's very easy to know how you are doing; but if you are the kind of person who sits in the corner and tries to stay invisible, then you can expect as much attention as any other professor. Dr. Hecht isn't the best lecturer in the world, but he hates boring lectures as much as we do so you won't be bored. His written exams definitely tend to be on the difficult side, but he's also easy to approach if you have trouble with an exam or paper or something. He takes it personally if a student does poorly so he goes out of his way to give you every opportunity to pull your grade up.
