Very Stubborn! Never teach anything, expect you to learn in groups...

I felt Heiman is a very lazy teacher, he claims that his teaching style is the best way to learn in groups. He always criticized on other professors teaching style as only lecturing the students. If so, what's the purpose of having a professor like Heiman in the class? I don't know why SFSU can even hire this kind of professor and allowing him to organize the class this way? My conclusion is Do not take his class! You will learn nothing and confused throughout the semester!

Excellent choice for 890

Prof. Heiman did an excellent job of creating a dynamic learning environment and engaging his students. His expectations are reasonable - he did not give us a ton of work so we could do a very thorough job on what we were assigned. This course effectively pulled together material from 2 years of MBA classes and advanced my critical thinking skills.

Heiman is very passionate about teaching (which sometimes causes him to talk too much) and brought in a lot of relevant, outside information which added a fresh perspective and another level of depth to the material in the book.

Lots of group work!!!

Heiman does a student-base learning system where the students teach the class. You form groups of 4-5 people and every group is assigned to 2 different chapters of the book and you have to make a 20-30 minute presentation on each chapter. The presentations are very specific and lots of work. You need to prepare a digest (most important points of the chapter) to hand out to the class, a powerpoint presentation which include a summary of the chapter, critique 2 articles in the chapter and a case study on a company of your choice that relates to the chapter. He also assigns homework; critical notes that are only a page. Since I took this class in the summer, we only had to do 2, but he said he usually gives out 6 of them in a regular semester. He doesn't give any test, only 2 quizzes just to make sure you are reading the chapters and not only reading the ones you have to present on (and the chapters are VERY long!). The quizzes are easy (true/false) and are graded by your peers after you finish taking it. The final consist of a 12 page group paper about strategy on a company of your choice and a 15 minute presentation on it. Class participation is also a very big percentage of your grade. He wants everyone to speak/ask a question once every class period and he keeps track of it. Class participation can make the difference in getting an A or a B. This class isn't hard at all cause he's a fairly easy grader, but it's A LOT OF WORK!!!
