I got an A only because I have a background in mythology and because I stayed awake studying (mainly from the textbook) until 4am, every day, for a week before the tests. She doesn't explain enough in class and the tests are, well, terrible. Professor Henry is a kind woman (with the exception that she doesn't handle critisism well, in my experience). Don't take this class unless you're a masochist or you have an unhealthy love towards Apollo.

This is a confused teacher! Rambles on about endless crap. Maybe she was a great teacher when she started out but now not so great. willing to work with you and your papers and test.... b/c she knows that she is not a good teacher. Feel real bad b/c she is a nice lady who does know her stuff and you can see that she loves her work.... but needs better lectures. can and will fall asleep!!!

The problem with this class is that she expects you to memorize the books by heart, remember minor characters that may have only said one line, and reads from the books like psalms in the Bible. I've witnessed her scream someone's head off for asking a question she automatically assumed we'd know. Although she is nice at times, she still told us to wear name tags 3/4 into the semester, only remembering the teacher's pets. My suggestion is for her to understand that Greek Epics may be her life, but give the student the benefit of the doubt as long as they read those long ass books. They're not my life.

At times I liked this class and at times I didnt. Prof Henry is a very erratic teacher sometimes. Basically though, if you work hard and be attentive during class, you should get at least a B. Throughout the semester, we did a midterm, a quiz, a final, and a short paper. FOr her tests, you can bring three index cards with notes during the exams, which is pretty fair considering all the dates, places, etc, etc that you need to know for the exams. If you're really like this kind of stuff, I would recommend Henry very much because she is very passionate about this subject. If you don't like the subject and you show it in class though, she will not be amused at all.

Margaret Henry's class, CLAR 250, is so confusing. Archaeology should be fascinating, but she jumps way too fast and you get lost every minute--really! She goes off into stories that are very strange and have no relevance. She also mocks her students, and one of my friends found it very offensive. There are a massive number of handouts which add up, filling your notebook. You would think handouts would be a help, but there are way too many. She wants you to be an encyclopedia of knowledge--which can be very difficult for this type of class. She has an enthusiasm for archaeology, but it does not matter. The class is confusing, bottom line.

Professor Henry is extremely nice! From the very first day of class she will make you feel like you are in her home. BUT, she is very difficult to understand at times!!!! For the first few weeks, you feel like you are in the wrong class, because she uses her extensive knowledge of architectural terms which confuses the heck out of students! Her lecutures are also off the wall with no structure whatsoever;however, after about a month you start to see that there is some method behind her madness! Come to class with a huge binder, you'll need it for all the handouts that she will give you! The tests are easy if you pay attention to what she says will be on it. She also let's you bring in 3 3X5 notecards that you can cram everything on it! Overall, you will walk out of that class with a deeper appreciation of history, archaeology, and architecture! Have fun!

Margaret Henry was a great teacher! She knew so much about what she was talking about.... I totally expected less when I first went into the class. She was very funny and treated us as if we were her own. She gave great lectures and enriched our learning with the stories she told us of her trips and visits to the places we studied. Her tests were pretty easy...she let us use 3 notecards... and she was always very flexible and kind when it came to her students. Even though she knew the names of certain students, you never felt like an outsider. She handed out tons of papers, but they all helped to make you learn about whatever you were studying. I totally loved this class!

I like Ms. Henry's enthusiasm and enjoy her class. I do think that she could be a bit more organized and not give away the ending to the books for those of us who haven't read them yet. Overall, her tests are fairly hard, but she gives you a lot of preperation materials. If you read and pay attention, you will probably get a B.

I have found Margaret Henry to be extremely well informed about mythology and other subjects. She is enthusiastic, fun-loving,animated and lenient. She allows 3 3x5 index cards to be brought in for exams- which aren't terribly taxing if you've gone to class, paid attention, and read the material. She is doesn't harrass her students who don't participate, she just enjoys the ones who do. I would take more classes with her.

Henry appears to be extremely knowledgeable regarding mythology and mythological ideas/concepts. However, she has an immensely poor way of passing the information on to her students. Her lectures aren't structured in any conceivable way as she leaps ahead and then leaps back to where she started. She flips through the pages in the textbook, reading little snipits without informing students of what she is reading from. When you finally realize where she is, she has thus moved on to another page. The class focuses on the Greeks and briefly deals with the Romans. Her tests consist of the genealogy of gods and goddesses, maps, and 10-15 paragraphs in which the student must identify the source (Homer, Hesiod, Ovid, Virgil), the author, and various other fill-in-the-blanks. Luckily, you are able to bring 3 index cards of notes. Which is hardly enough for the extensive amount of information she expects you to memorize. In a way, she is expecting her students to come into the class with a previous knowledge of Greek mythology. This upper division class should be taught by someone who has better teaching/lecture skills. Grrrr.
