He apparently doesn't know how to teach the MKTG 434 Marketing Reseach class and He is not organized on class preparation. If you think he is a good professor because you had a good time in his MKTG 433 Consumer class, you are totally wrong. If you are an A or B student, please take someone else but not him. He is a slace that only himself knows what he talks about what he is teaching. The whole class was so confusing in understanding his requirement on the project.

I got a full "A" in his class. I will tell you how to do it. The Professor Ho will probably tell you not to read the book, just to take notes and look at the Powerpoint slides. Yes, read the book. He is trying to help you save time; but read the book!
This course is a course in "Life". You will cover about 9 important concepts every class. You will have hundreds of facts and concepts to learn. And he will give you a multiple choice exam. What I did was to pick out the definitions and concepts exactly as they are written in the book, and then I transferred them to a computer testing program which I got from www.openwindow.com. You see, the concepts are not difficult to accept or understand, but there are too many of them! So, what you want to do is to "flash yourself" with computer flash cards. I did this, flashed myself 3 times in ten minutes, then again about 1 hour later, then again the next day. Viola! I remembered everything and I became ranked student #3 out of about 130 students. Only about 8 students got a full "A".
You will get a negative look from him if your cell phone goes off. If you are late for class, you get no extra credit or attendance points. And he uses a stop watch. This can make the difference between a B+ and and "A". So be perfect.
He is very funny, family oriented, conservative in the Asian way, and hip. He likes to make you laugh. He does not have a thick accent. He speaks well. We had 3 exams. Each exam covers 6 Chapters! Maybe this is 200 concepts, facts! Too much! So, I suggested to him that he make 4 exams out of the class. He took my suggestion because he knew I was a very good student. He places his emphasis on listening to suggestions from the best students only, and disregards the fools in the class. If you are behind in class and asking foolish questions because you are not doing your homework and keeping up to date with the reading, he will give a look of disdane towards the person. He will "honor you" by changing his voice tone, call you "Mr. or Ms." and totally focus on your suggestion if you are a great student in his class. And this is what he did towards me. I was floored when I felt this coming from him. He gives special respect to the better students. Others around me noticed this attribute from Dr. Ho.
A few facts on his Powerpoint slides had old facts on them; but only about 3 facts were old out of hundreds presented. He listened to my update; maybe he changed them by now. He certainly listened to the correction. Remember, he has about 2,000 facts and concepts that he will cover over the semester, so you would expect some to become outdated. I made about 2,000 flash cards for this class.
He is not a tricky test maker.
I felt this was one of the best classes I have ever taken in college; and I already have a degree and I have attended 4 colleges. This class will give you life tools you will use.
Dr. Ho is very approachable and kind. Certainly he is one of the most happy and pleasant professors I have taken. He was previously a products manager for a corp. So he has real world experience. He has taught this class for several years and has become adept at all the facts he presents. But this class is introductory in nature and you will not go into depth with most concepts. And for most concepts it is not necessary. This is not an easy class to get an "A" in. It is easy to get a "C" in, but not an "A". For an "A" you will need flash cards to remember all the concepts. This will take many hours every week for you to produce.
If there is any disagreement between his version of the material and the book's version, go with the book's presentation. This is how it will be presented on the multiple choice tests: book version.
I cannot think of one negative feature of Dr. Ho's class or his presentation. So, I give him an "A+"
He is fair and he will even give you extra credit points if you do as he says. As a result, you can raise your grade about 2/3's of a grade point with him just for doing something as simple as attending class, being on time, etc. Actually, I scored 100+ points in his class because I earned the extra credit.
Ask him if you can take the finals on an alternative day that suits you, he may do it. This is handy when you have 4 finals to take.

Prof. Ho is a great teacher! He tries to make all of his lectures interesting to the class and uses a lot of real world examples. His exams are easy if you study the powerpoints and read the book. The first exam is mainly definitions from the powerpoints, but the 2nd and 3rd exams include questions that would be extremely easy to answer if you read the book and take notes on bolded/important words in the book that are not in the powerpoints. Pay close attention to the examples they give in the book b/c you will see them in the exams. Lastly, GO TO CLASS and sit through his lectures. It's worth it! He gives out A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT just for being there and for completing some simple surveys, etc he asks you to do and write a paragraph about your results. Does 35 POINTS of EXTRA CREDIT sound good? It helped me raise my grade from an 84%=B to a 95%=A. He's a great professor! Take him!

Wow, harsh reviews, considering his class is one of those where you don't even have to attend and get an "A" in. If you DO show up, he gives you extra credit. His exams (three of them) are based right out of the book and his powerpoint slides (which you can download online) guide you in the right direction for exams (highlighting the most important points). So, there's really nothing to complain about! He's not a mean guy, he cracks jokes, tells little stories about himself, his wife, his daughter...whether you think it's funny or not is a whole other story, but it's not like he's being an asshole or anything. He's a nice guy. Easy breezy "A" class.

Prof Ho likes to talk about Tiger Woods and Las Vegas and not much else.
He cracks himself up, and does not notices that no one else is laughing.
He uses slides from the book, and does not display any signs of having any knowlege on the subject at all. Anyone can read off a slide.
The upside is, there is no project or homework. 3 exams, mulitiple choice, 50 questions. The questions are straight from the slides, but there are a lot of models and theories that are hard to understand and he does not explain them very well. Use the book for back up.
If you can stand sitting through his lectures you'll do OK. He also gives a lot of extra credit, for attendance and some assignments he gives that are really easy.

Professor Ho is not as bad as some reviewers say. He tries to keep the class involved by using pertinent real-life examples and stupid coryn jokes. He makes a great effort to drill material into your head and will even give you a wink to remember key ideas for the up comming exams. Although he may seem to be annoying and pick on some of the students some of the time, this is his comic relief. He really does know a lot about the material he teaches. He only takes role less than 10 times during the semester, but if you are there, you get extra credit points. His assignments are given on random days for extra credit points too. He wants the students to ask questions and participate. You can absorb more information if you acutally go to class and pay attention. I thought he really put forth the effort and showed great capability to educate students. I would definitely recommend him.

The class is good and you learn how to use SPSS to analyze market research data. The homeworks are easy since the lecture ppt shows how to use SPSS. The project wasnt too hard if you know how to apply the concepts. The teacher doesnt like to give A to many students. He places 30% on class participation which you think it would be used to help your grade but he uses it to lower your grade since almost all groups get perfect on homeworks and the project. He gives A to his favorite students by giving them a good score on class participation so make sure you become good friends with him.

He had powerpoint slides online and went over them in class. I enjoyed going to the class just to hear him talk, he was pretty funny. Good teacher, definately take him if you can.

He's a pretty good teacher...kind of on the easy side...but you do learn the material. He gives out extra credit during the semester for attendance when he sees that most of the class isn't there. And the extra credit can help out a lot...he gave out a total of 30 pts this semester and that boosted my grade from a B to and A-. He gives 3 multiple choice exams, no comprehensive final. Each exam is worth 50 pts...so you can see how much the extra 30pts for extra credit helped out. The 1st and 3rd exam are easy with basic definitions and scenario questions...but the 2nd exam material is a bit more complex (so you really need to study for that one, the class average for that exam was 68%). Overall, it was an easy class and he's a fair teacher.

Professor Ho is a great teacher and gives very fair exams. The questions come straight from the book and from the powerpoint slides. He makes class interesting because he has a sense of humor and tries to liven up the class. The extra credit he offers really helps your grade, so take advantage of the opportunities. Overall, I recommend this teacher for this course.

Professor Ho is one of the most thoughtful professors I have encountered in the MBA program. He has a good sense of humor and made the Marketing 864 class actually interesting and informative. He has such an approachable and warm personality and most importantly he is such an effective and knowledgeable teacher. His lectures are interesting because he ties the concept into real world examples. His lecture is from powerpoint slides which you can download and print from the blackboard - this makes the lecture easy to follow. He is reasonable and his tests are fair. The course grade was based on a midterm and final exam. I had fun and enjoyed this class and it was a sunny spot in my semester. I learned a lot about quantitative marketing research. So I have to say I highly recommend this teacher.

He expects people to come to class everyday yet I heard the same stories so many times that it made me crazy. If you read this... Stop repeating yourself. It is very annoying for those of us who actually come everyday like you request. Also don't be so bitchy to the people that do come to class about the students who aren't coming everyday. It is a waste of everyone's time. Overall I was highly disappointed with the class and I wish I would have taken a more challenging and less repetitive teacher.

Great class! Great teacher! I learned a lot from Prof. Ho. He has really great powerpoint slides and as long as you print them out and take notes and pay attention in class, you should do well. He relates the material to everyday life examples and it makes it far more interesting with his stories. I don't understand why a lot of people don't do well in his class, but it's probably because the grade is based on the 3 exams. You HAVE to study for the exams or else you won't pass it. Oh, and read the book too..most people don't, but it's worth it cuz you do that much better.

Ok, it's time to change Prof Ho's grade.
This is by far one of the better Marketing classes I've taken at SFSU, and Professor Ho is a great professor.
First of all the class isn't that hard. Only three multiple choice tests of 50 questions each. All the material covered is from the slides and the lectures. You can easily get a good grade and not even open the textbook!
Second of all, the material is relevant and interesting. If you're going to have a career in marketing, you're going to have to know this stuff. Plus Professor Ho gives real life examples so its easier to understand the concepts.
As a teacher Professor Ho is really good. You can understand him and he actually cares that you're understanding the material, going to class, and doing well in the class. He even offers extra credit (which easily pulled me from a B+ to a solid A).
He's even funny, if not a little bit corny.
If you want a good grade in Prof Ho's class, just GO TO CLASS!!! If you pay attention in class, you'd have to really try to fail this class. Besides you're in college, it's part of the criteria!
And for the other posters who are going off on Prof Ho: You seriously need to take Garfolo's class and see what a terrible professor really is.

DAMN!!! Everybody who talked shit about Dr. Ho needs to be BITCH-SLAPPED . . . a few times. This guy is hilarious. He doesn't take himself too seriously, and he gets the students to participate. As far as all this hatin' on students and making sure they fail . . . man, write the real story folks. Sure he has drawbacks, he has an accent, so sometimes its not so easy to understand him, but that's few and far in between. And yeah he likes to go off on tangents during lectures, but it ain't as bad as these fruit-booties claim. Go to class and pay attention, get the extra credit, download the powerpoint notes from the net, read the book and you should be straight. This is college folks, you should be expecting to do this much work. This guy's cool and he knows his shit. So all y'all stop hatin' just cuz he wouldn't kiss your whinin', bitchin' and moanin' monkey asses.

I agree with the previous reviewers about his biased personaility about the students he likes and the students he wouldn't like. If he doesn't like you, the look in his eyes can really tell you how much he dislikes you. I don't think that is a proper way to determine one's grade in the class. And yes, the examples he presents pertaining to the subject are outdated by more than 10 years! I would know since I'm old enough to remember those time frames that he cites.

I guess you don't have a choice but to take this class if you're a marketing major, but this is a pretty interesting class..
Dr. Ho has a nice personality, his lectures follows powerpoint slides, they are pretty slow and easy.. He encourages class participation which makes the class more interesting, but he seems to get off on tangets too many time, and then he falls behind schedule..
There's nothing exciting about this class, no group projects, no homework, no papers no nothing, just straight forward lectures, which is nice when you have a lot of other classes that are demanding, but it is also kind of boring..
His tests are multiple choice, no surprises here either..

Prof. Ho is a Wardlow wannabe. He uses Powerpoint in his lectures and gives out 3 scantron tests just like Wardlow. The difference between the two is that Wardlow has a friendlier personality. I didn't like that 10% of my grade would be on class participation. He always want students to answer his sensitive and personal questions about yourself, your lifestyle, your beliefs, and your family. I didn't want to answer these question in the middle of class because it's nobody's business but my own. The 3 test are vague. They are both based from his lectures and the book. He doesn't copy word-by-word from the book so you'll have to interpret the questions yourself and he doesn't give a study guide. My class did terribly on the 2nd test so he gave us a 15 point extra credit assignment. I went to see him in his office about my poor test scores. He accused me of not attending class even though I was never absent and he didn't even know my name and who I was. What a jerk. He even said that if I attended his classes everyday I would not get poor tests scores. That's BS. Mostly everyone had a "D" on his 2nd test. His slides are confusing and his data are based on info he obtained years ago. He needs to update those slides. Once a while he'll give extra credit points if you attend class and he actually takes attendance that day.

Professor Ho means well, but he just doesn't do a good job teaching the class. He doesn't use class time to cover test material. Instead he goes on and on and on about unrelated topics that are boring and useless to marketing students. He talks more about finance than consumer behavior. He wasted so much of our time with his stories that he postponed the exams up to 2 weeks. (this is a once a week class folks) Read the book and you could ace his test without ever going to class.

Foo Ho seems like a nice guy, and maybe he has a good background knowledge in the high-tech field. He has one major problem, all his facts and real-life examples are wrong! Furthermore, he has a bad habit of being extremely repetitive. Do not take Mr. Ho if you like your professors to be smarter about general knowledge than you. Example: He does not know the difference between Jam and Jelly.
