Peter really knows his stuff. The previous good reviews were very helpful and I loved taking his course. If I had the time I would take all the courses that he teaches. Ask him anything about the material and you will get an elaborate yet still interesting explanation. He is one of the best teachers that I have taken a course with at sfsu. Lectures may seem boring in the beginning, but with his explanation of the before you will totally get why everything else happens. His teaching style is very digestable, and I believe for many different types of learining. His homework takes time, but are rewarding for class and self knowledge. His exams may be tricky but the homework will help you prepare to think in the depth he expects. He may seem reserved in the beginning, but once you get to know him, he is really great. And he does favor people...the people who want to use their brain and are willing to learn :)

Dr. Ingmire is such a great professor! The class was very well organized and he encouraged students to give suggestions about what they were interested in learning. Dr. Ingmire always came to class prepared and on-time. And he makes himself very accessible to his students. There was hardly any homework... just reading a couple of articles off the electronic reserve (no book required!) and either answering given questions or writing a summary, every once in a while. The tests were pretty straight forward and he gives out study guides about a week or so before the exams. The only major project of the class was choosing a disease to research, writing a paper and presenting it to the class. And for the final, he asked the class how we would like it to be arranged (all open notes!). I HIGHLY recommend this class because you get a lot of interesting and relevant information. Dr. Ingmire is one of the most understanding professors I have ever met and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students and their well-being. I had some major problems this past semester and Dr. Ingmire was extremely understanding about everything! Not to mention, the eye candy isn't too bad either... TAKE THIS CLASS!!!

I took him over the summer and was recommended by another student. He really understands biology and conveys information well. What made me impressed his he would come 30 minutes before exams. He will answer most questions. My concern is he his sort of biased. I recommend those who want to take human biology and for those who want to learn more about cells.

This is one of the most interesting courses I've taken thus far in Biology. It is part of the segment III AIDS cluster. As mentioned above, his exams are geared towards those who study and take the time to actually think about the material presented; his expectations are high and encourage the student to do more than memorize and regurgitate data. His lectures are thourough and he provides interesting commentary related to the topic that goes beyond the biological specifics one expects. He is accessible and helps create a relaxed atmosphere in the classroom. He seems to truly enjoy teaching and the learning environment. He keeps himself up to date on the latest developements in the material he presents. There is no textbook, instead articles from scientific journals that the student reads as a supplement to the lectures. There is a final group presentation/ 10 page research paper that seems a little excessive in his expectations but I am sure he will be fair in his grading. I recommend this course and this professor if you are up to the challenge.

I got to admit that I decided to add his class simply because he looks cute! Then I totally regretted after the 1st exam, cause I got a "C". Moreover, the lack of lecture cues, makes his lecture hard to follow. And his notes on the board were usually a mess and disorganized. However, one thing impressed me the most is that he's willing to come to the class 30 mins earlier on the day of exam, so we can ask him all kinds of quesitons before the exam. He also allowed us to do the group discussion for the first 4-6 quesitons. That will definitely help our grades. He does the grade on curves, so, even though I got a "C" on 1st exam, with my great class participaiton and better grades later, I got an "A" at last. Not really recoomand him, but watching him teaching, still a nice thing to me, he's really cute~

organized the course great, full of interesting stuff - felt I learned a lot and it made me think. people complained about the tests which are harder than what I expected for a course this level. but he never said it wasn't challenging and he said he wanted us to push ourselves. he even gave a biological purpose for doing that. plus he grades based on how the class overall is doing. and he grades on improvement, so you just have to not stay lost and not give up.

Peter's teaching methods appear to be from a textbook on how to effectively communicate with students, and maximize the learning potential of everyone in the class. His unrelenting desire to educate coupled with an incredibly mild temperament set a new standard in teacher/ student relations. His tests were hard, but so was the material. In the end, the grades were more than fair and I look forward to talking more classes from him.

Personality wise, he's a good man. Peter's willing to spend more hours than the office hours he indicated on his office hours. The grade on this class based on 6 tests, the first 3 is harder than the last 3. But if your wishing for an easy A, this is not the class to be in. But overall, he knows what he's talking about, willing to help students, and answer question no matter how weird they were.

It is difficult to say that I did less than great in this class 'because' of Mr. Ingmire. The two tests that I studied 'really hard' for I got A's on - when I put in considerably less effort, I did considerably less well. The class average was really low, but I think it is because Peter expects students to interact with the material presented in an in-depth way, not one dimensionally. He asks more of you than to simply regurgitate vocab. and/or simple concepts. This may seem like a lot to ask for a general survey course that non-bio majors are required to take, but I think it is the new trend in teaching and you get more out of it in the long run and isn't that the point?
He is 'really' knowledgeable about the subject and very open to answering all relevant (and some not so relevant) questions from students. He is exceedingly flexible and willing to work with students, and makes himself very available outside of class. I think he really 'wants' students to do well, but isn't going to spoon feed you to make sure everyone gets A's.
Since grades aren't out yet, I am not sure how the class ended up fairing. He made it a point throughout the semester to say that he was grading on a curve, that your overall performance in the class compared with the performance of everyone else, would all be taken into consideration come 'grade time.'
As far as a recommendation, if you are prepared to study more than a few hours right before each exam and utilize his office hours, etc., you will probably do fine and he is probably a lot better than many bio. profs. at sfsu. I'd recommend him.

Peter looks and seems very friendly at first. Class lectures are decent--there is no homework which is a plus. His style of teaching is very difficult to follow. Then came the test. Class average was under 50%. This was true for the other 6 tests, as well. His questions were tricky and not even from the lectures. I took the class pass/fail becuase i feltlike it was impossible to get an A. I do have to say that the final 2 tests were easier than the first ones, but it's still discouraging for a student. I would not reccommend him
