Great teacher.

Professor Katz teachers her class from a very left wing perspective, but she is always fair and respectful of other students opinions. Her class consists of three take home essays which she gives ample time to do and she will help you improve your essay if you turn it in early.

A Pleasant Professor

Professor Katz may not be the animated lecturer some of the history professors in this department are, but she is nonetheless a pleasant professor to be in the company of.

Her handwriting is difficult to read so this may not work well when it's time to rewrite and review, but more importantly, her suggestions are quite good. I was always aware of my weak points in the assignments and final project but was unsure on how to correct them. Her suggestions were articulated so clearly and thoroughly, that rewriting was essentially easy. Overall, her feedback was very useful and easily available.

She responded to e-mails the same day they were sent and she always made time to set an office appointment if needed. In this type of class, where regular assistance is needed, you definitely want to take advantage of this.

The books she chose were very helpful and easy to read. This class sounds demanding and at times, overwhelming because of all the research involved, but she kept a good pace. Yes, the homework assignments seemed to be a nuisance at times but think of the smaller picture, if you didn't do your homework, you would be bored in discussion.

If you didn't do homework, still go to class because there's always something useful to learn in regards to the research project.

Good Luck!

Maybe not your best choice, take someone else.

For all History majors, if you want to work extra hard and not learn much take Professor Katz. She is kind of disorganized on the way she structures the seminar. She will give you homework every week, and at the same time you'll have to keep up with your final project. There were many people falling behind their projects because of her system. She is lenient towards grading, but this doesn't mean she is the best for this course. If your final project is not about social history, you are not going to get an A in her class.

Wonderful history 300 instructor

sherry is an excellent instructor. Her syllabus is very clear in terms of assignments given and what she expects each assignment to contain. There are written assignments due each class in addition to a moderate amount of reading she expects to have been written in order that each student may participate in classroom discussion. Sherry is very generous when it comes to turining in late assignment; she does not penalize for work turned in late. She has a great personality and encourages students to speak up in class. Sherry encourages students developing relationships with one another and creates a phone and email list for all in the class. All the work given during the semester allows one to research and write the final projec. She is highly knowlegable in the field and remains active as an historian. The work load may prove daunting to some but the work comes with the field

Sherry Katz shows great interest and enthusiasm in the process of analyzing and coming up with one's own conclusions about a given period in time. She is open to a wide array of topics for the paper due at the end of the semster and gives excellent feedback in helping to narrow down one's topic. The topics of the weekly writing assignments are thought provoking and challenging. These writing assignments always related to the class discussion and this certainly ignited the interest of many students in the class. This teacher should most importantly be acknowledged for the direction she gives each student in the lengthy process of writing their term paper.
