I had prof. keroes for both stylistics and jewish american women writers. i loved her. she's not an easy A, you actually have to do the work but her selections are so enjoyable that i actually looked forward to doing the work for her class. i'm one of those shy students who sit back and listen but she made me feel so comfortable and makes everyone feel that their opinion is vital to the class that i spoke up in her class. i never spoke up in my other classes that semester. i also respect the fact that she prefers to leave her personal political opinions outside of the classroom. i was starting to lose hope in the academic quality of the professors at State because my previous experience was full of professors who felt compelled to take advantage of their position of authority to interject their irrelevant bitter political remarks in the middle of their lectures. Keroes keeps to the subject and she encourages free thinking among her students. her compassion for her job is obvious and it makes going to her classes enjoyable.

By the end of this class you won't be able to read anything without analyzing sentence structure! Geez. It's a mixed blessing. Enroll at your own risk.
Jo is like that favorite teacher you had in High School that inspired you to become an English major. I wish there were more like her in the English Department. She's the best!

I would take any class taught by Jo Keroes. She is the best teacher I've had at State. She is knowledgable, friendly, and interesting. She definately has a passion for literature, and a talent for teaching as well as learning.
