not a teacher to take for DS 212

Not a teacher to take if your not good in Math. She basically uses powerpoint presentation and her tests don't match the presentation or homework from the book. If you have no choice make sure you get a tutor.

Good but some caution........

Vera is a very easy instructor. She seems very knowledgable of the material but her lectures can be boring. She tries but the students tend to wander. Another dissapointment is she doesn't assign homework. I got really lazy over the summer because of this.

Good points: -quizzes are known ahead of time and straight from the book -knowlegable -post homework solutions, sample tests -answers questions -give you notes -tells you what to do on excel projects -fair grading policy

Nervous...

Very easy instructor. At the beginning of the semester, I think she couldn't help herself by indicating her nervousness about being up in front of the class. She occasionally wiped off what she wrote on the board, which to students, looks like she doesn't know what in the world she's doing! She really does know the subject and is very approachable though. This is a easy class and if you know basic math and can comprehend basic statistics, you don't really have to show up for her lectures. You will know when she gives her weekly quizzes and I noticed some students walked in at just the right time after her lecture to take it. Save time, you see?

If you are prepared to work on your own, that's definitely the teacher !!!

Vera is a very nice person, she knows what she's talking about but unfortunately she's not a good teacher. She doesn't make you do too much work. She never collects homeworks, however every friday you'll have a quiz on one of the homework problems, she gives three tests throughout the semester, they are not cumulative and are easy. You'll have to do a few excel projects, but she tells you step by step what to do. She has a web site and her materials on e-reserve are extremely helpful. Attendance in her class is not mandatory and because her lectures are too boring and unhelpful to sit through I was better off on my own. If you know math, prepared to work on your own, and are confident you'll do just fine without going to lectures.
