In this class you must read selections from different cultures. There are approximately six books to read; good choices. Ruth combines lectures, films, slides, music, and small group discussions. You must write two essays about your choice of the books. I don't know about the final because I'm currently enrolled.I have her for two classes right now, and am learning alot! She takes us in depth through various cultures, and ways of thought. I have alot of respect, and admiration for Ruth. She will let you rewrite your papers, and turn them in late if you must; she's flexible. I recommend her.

ok i have to admit this class was pretty boring. and it sucked when i spent an hour commuting to school only to have her read an awful lot. however this class was at times interesting. the course included two essays, each on one of the assigned books and the final had the same format. i appreciated the fact that she allowed us to either write the final essay beforehand and bring it to class or write it during the scheduled final period. because i had so many finals i had no time to write it beforehand so it really saved me. i believe knier is a very wise and nice person and very competent in her field... but i just wish she could livened the class up a little

This teacher is really nice and she genuinely appears to have an interest in teaching. However, I was fooled by the two teacher reviews above who gave her A's and took this class. What a mistake. She read to us passages from the books she assigned as if we're kindergarteners. She played music to us in the dark and I must agree this class was a joke. A few super nerds who engaged in conversations with her are probably pissed by this review but I could care less. I dreaded going to this class everyday. I cut numerous times and I believe the only thing that saved me was her repetitive easy assignments. Please seriously think again before taking her class. If you need to take it, I suggest bringing a game boy or some form of entertainment.

This teacher is a joke, and her class was a waste of time. She wound up discussing herself, and showing videos.Nothing in this class was any use to me or most of the other students.

Ruth Knier is one of the best professors I have ever had a class with. She has a wonderful way of teaching that is unlike most professors. She obviously loves her students and always takes time out for them. She encourages discussion in her class and requires about 3 to 4 essays each semester. She looks for thought and originality. Also is flexible with re-writes if you talk to her about it. She is an amazing woman. If you have a chance to take her you won't regret it.

She is a very wise and insightful woman who has a keen ability of relating the material to laymens tterms and examples. She takes on the most complex texts and disects them. It is a great way to de-mystify those dead authors. She is very approachable and easy to talk to. She has traveled a great deal. It is obvious she has lived a full and rewarding life.
