Take This TEACHER

I know you've been checking out the other teachers for Ba 412 and noticing that they're all kinda hard... Well you know...they are!!! So try to take David Kohler.. because he's the best one. He explains things very well...the class goes on a slower pace then the other ba412 classes...and...there is no book. Alotta students find Ba412 as hard as FINANCE 350, so unless you get KOHLER, don't take 350 the same semester. You might go bald. As for his personalty...he is truly a sweet guy. He treats his students like they're his kids. He's always in a good mood and never makes anyone feel stupid if they answer something wrong. So do participate...you may win bonus points. His exams are straight from the leture. So if you do't do well...that's your fault for not studying. During his lecture he will say things like "i may ask on an exam..." Trust me..those are the things he will ask. So put a star next to those...you basically will know everything on the exams. And yes...he does curve very generously, where as most of the other BA412 TEACHERS DON'T.

Good teacher

Professor Kohler is a really good teacher. He's very comprehensive and down to earth.

Ignore what others are saying about him taking so much time to do attendance. At first glance, he may seem like a goofy kind of professor, but he's really smart and he really knows his stuff.

First of all, you will not need a book. Do not buy a book! Save your $100 bucks. Go to class everyday and make sure you take really good notes because the exam problems are very similiar to the notes. The key to passing is not skipping any classes.

Sometimes during the class, you start to think how really easy this class really is. But it's not so easy at all. He's very methodical in his approach towards lectures and pretty soon, you will find yourself with tons of notes to study.

His tests are also very comprehensive. You really need to study EVERYTHING in your notes because its likely they will come up in the exam. The test isn't necessarily hard if you make sure you understand the notes.

A great professor!!!

Prof. Kohler is very knowledgeable and straight-forward. More importantly, he is very kind. He really tries to help students out. His lectures are very straight-forward. Exams are based on his lectures, so it is vital that you do not miss a class (not even one) and take exceptional notes (which isn't very hard considering that he writes most of it down on the board). Kohler does not waste anybody's time by talking about things that doesn't apply to Business Analysis. He doesn't recommend purchasing the textbook, because he makes up all the homework. If you need to use the book for reference or to do practice problems, it is available in the Reserve Book room. Kohler informs his students about all of this. He's a professor with brains and personality. I definitely suggest taking him.

Kohler SUCKS

I don't know about him teaching BA 412, but as for having him for BA 601, he's a real nut. He expects everyone to understand in a snap. And when asks him a question of maybe solving the problem another way, he gets irritated and says, "Well....no, you wouldn't do it that way? Why would you do it that way??" We've gone through 2 midterms already in other classes, but we haven't even had 1 for this class. He didn't even wanna give us a midterm, just homework and the final! We don't even know what to expect for his midterm or final. He grades the HW very heavily, so make sure you do well on the homework. He zips through things without explaining at all how he got to where he's at. I wish the BACS dept. would find someone else to teach this class. Worst of all, for us BA majors, he teaches 2 BA classes! I feel sorry for us students!!!

Nice guy, but doesn't get it

Dr. Kohler means well but he really needs to re-think the time needed for labs. It is unreasonable to show someone something and five minutes later expect them to be able to incorporate all the concepts AND use the arcane software involved.

Making the labs all-or nothing was a big mistake; most people couldn't even finish, hence received no credit. The labs were very discouraging and I DREADED every lab session.

Along with the BICS dept he needs to learn that we're in school to learn concepts, not how to use a particular software package.

Advice to students: Stay home and rub Ben-Gay on your hemorrhoids. You'll get precisely the same effect as this class - at a fraction of the price!

Kohler is a very reasonable instructor. He has a quiz for each chapter, which is not multiple choice. However, all his exams are too lengthy for the 20 minutes he gives you. Luckily, he grades on a curve. It is quite easy to get a B or C in his class. He require homework to be turned in about 2 times during the semester. He goes through all the hhomework and is willing to help at any time. His final was like 6-7 pages.

Basically... I really like Dr. Kohler and his teaching method. It was very helpful to understand exactly how a formula worked. I find that they're harder to use and apply to business problems if I'm unsure about what they exactly tell you. His grade was based on 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. All the tests were challenging, but his curves were very generous. He also assigns, but doesn't collect homework. You're success in this class is heavily dependent on whether you do these problems or not. Math is all about practice, practice, practice, so if you don't do them, you'll be lost on the tests. Dr. Kohler is a very nice man and very interested in making sure everyone understands the material. He gives out his home phone number and encourages us to call him if we need help with any of the material. Just please, be sure to do the practice problems if you want to do well in the class.

I think BA 412, in which you learn a number of statistical and analysis techniques used in operations management, is a challenging class for almost every student. I studied for this class more than most of my others that semester, since much of the material was new to me. What I liked best about Professor Kohler was that he explained every concept in a methodical and easy-to-follow manner. In other words, he built a foundation and worked up, using numerous examples along the way. As long as I attended class and paid attention, I had no problems. That leads to one criticism I have, which is that if you miss a class (which I did once), it's very difficult to catch up, even getting the notes from a classmate. But Professor Kohler is very organized, communicates very clearly, and provides ample opportunities for extra credit. His exams tested us on exactly what he covered in class, so there were no surprises. I highly recommend him for this subject, so long as you're willing go to almost every class meeting and study hard.

he was a very nice teacher. He gave a quiz after each chapter, but they were always too long. You had to rush to finish his exams. Luckily he grades on a huge curve. he's not so easy in giving A's. I'd a say 10% A's 20% B's 50% C's and the rest is history. No homework. Quizzes are 20% of the grade. Midterms 35% of the grade . final is about 40%-depending. If you just work a little bit- a C or B is easy to attain.

Kohler really does try to make an effort at making things clear. The subject is varied and a little difficult because of the math but doable with study of the examples he gives you. We had 2 exams, he said he normally gives 3, which dealt with exactly the problems he talks about in class but sometimes with some twists and turns. It looks like a lot of A's were given so its not impossible though. He will be very polite about explaining over again so you shouldn't be afraid to ask. Definitely Recommended if you want to learn the subject.

Very well intentioned. Tries hard to make sure every one understands him. The problem is he doesn't use a book. He teaches from notes. The subject matter is complex, requiring an understanding of stats and excel. He attempts to teach arcane excel procedures while trying to also teach complex concepts. The two can become confusing. I found it extremely difficult to take detailed notes (since there's no textbook) and follow his logic. He is frequently correcting himself and having to re-explain everything. He has a good grasp of what is important, though he needs to augment his lectures with some clear examples of procedural steps. Also be prepared for homework and test problems that only the wiz kids get. The subject is to difficult to teach without some reference material such as written sample problems and procedural steps.

Professor Kohler seems like a very nice person, but his teaching methods are sometimes hard to understand. Maybe that's partly because I've never taken a math class that's run more like a lecture. He does however make sure that you understand clearly before going on to teaching something new though. His tests are on math that he has gone over, any never any material that he hasn't yet covered yet. Overall I give him a B+, and I would recommend that you take this class, as long as you are willing to work for your A.

Professor Kohler is a very helpful instructor. He does not leave a classroom until he is sure everyone understands the subject. You can ask him all you want, as many times you need, he will answer it. He teaches mainly through notes and examples, and there are homeworks which is really helpful to understand the topics. He is very fair, polite, and interested in your learning. He is one of the best teachers I ever had. I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning.
