Marie Paule Laden

This professor is great, she is very classy, gentle, and knowledgable about literature (English AND French!) and history, in short, she's very accomplished, but doesn't have an ounce of attitude about it. I have heard a couple of students say idiotic, ageist things about her. I hope they soon learn how not to be so bigoted! (and short-sighted! We're ALL aging, kids!) (Plus, she's maybe in her mid-to-late 50's. Is it already time to throw her out now? And what if she was 80? Idiots.) Anyway, Professor Laden is an excellent teacher and scholar, and you're lucky if you get a chance to be in her class. She speaks clearly, is very patient with questions, and gives very thorough answers. She taught me more about literature, writing, philosophy, and history than I've ever learned in any other class, English or French! She once taught at Princeton, and you can tell. Don't pass up your chance to class up your education!

Professor Laden is one of the most enthusiastic teachers I've had here at State. She makes a seemingly boring subject rather interesting and encourages participation. I cannot stress enough how much speaking up in French will help your speaking skills. Although sometimes the subject matter is rather boring, she makes it so that her students are not afraid to speak their minds and feel comfortable in class. Chances are you'll end up taking a course with her.

Overall, the only things that bothered me were her lecturing skills.

There is no passion, no talent. She has a very advanced age and lost any enthousiasm for this subject.

She will bore you to death. If you want to learn and enjoy your classes, take Perret's classes.

Ms. Laden is educated in her field; she is a native of France. She cares about her students, and will help you out if you approach her. She is willing to explain things as many times as it takes for the class to get it. Her exams and syll. are straightforward. If you enjoy the french language, you'll enjoy this class. The only requirement is that everything be en francais!
