ok?? i don't know...

ok, writing a review for jenny lau is just plain difficult. she's isn't bad, but she isn't good either. i don't know how i ended up with a B+ in that class, when i did so poorly on tests and papers. but i did manage to get some good grades towards the end, which leads me to believe that perhaps she weighs the final grade based on improvement. she is nice, and really does know about film. she especially focuses on the b.s that goes on in the film industry, and she shows a making of: apocalypse now documentary to illustrate that. she likes independent film which is refreshing and she does know alot of that random film trivia. but when taking a class with her, be warned that the tests are pretty bad, and the text is terrible. if you were completely new to film class like i was, you won't come out of that class really learning about anything, but you will see a few good films. so, i'll give her a C+

take her if you have to..

Lectures could have been much more detailed and a lot more interesting..she feels very distant and for the vast amount of information in the book, she didn't really help us in what to cover when studying. In addition, time in class could have been used more efficiently. and with the papers, she wasn't clear on what she really expected. - hot theatre!! comfortable seats.

If you have a choice, choose another

Half the movies were very good and the other half were, well, not very good. Unfortunately the lectures... did not fair as well. Ms. Lau is a very nice lady and she means well, but this class was boring and lacking direction. When an essay was assigned, she gave us very few guidelines on how to write them, and then didn't follow those guidelines when grading them.

If you have a choice I would take another class or instructor -- if you must take this instructor realize that it's not the end of the world, it's just one semester. My suggestion is this: she lets anyone add who wants to, so go the first day and if you don't agree with my review, add it on to your schedule after you sit through the lecture -- but all it takes is one lecture and you'll see what I mean.

I'm giving her a "C" for an average course.
