I graduated in AAS in 2000 and have taken three classes with professor Le. She is an excellent professor and has been a very inspirational influence in my life. Although I have not spoken to her recently, I think of her often. I will always remember her as one of my mentors. She impacted me academically, creatively and on a personal level. I'm now a master's student in Psychology with an Emphasis in Expressive Art Therapy, a musician and a documentary filmmaker.

A VERY CONCEITED and egotistical bitch. But... this her teaching style is very interesting. Likes to talk about how she goes to Yale and married a white guy.
Kinda cute.. but other than that... a bitch.

Okay, I don't know about that person that gave the 'F' to Le back in '99. That person probably had problems with school in general. Professor Le wasn't a bad teacher at all. She has a great personality and very helpful if you didn't understand what was going on in the lecture...as long as you asked! I am not Vietnamese, but still enjoyed her class. I think its more up to you if you want to get into the lectures. I didn't feel she was biased at all towards the non-Vietnamese students, but more tried to get the Vietnamese students in her class to open up and tell their stories. Her lectures can at times be irrelevant to the tests, but they're not too bad, as long as you participate.

I found Ms. Le to be a very informative teacher. She has great passion for her subject. She treated all her students fairly, whether they were Asian or not. Her assignments were pretty easy. All i had to do was a family tree a 5-6 page paper about your own ethnic identity which was real wasy to do because she wants you to answer specific questions and when u do answer them your paper is finished. We also had to to a group 20-30 min presentation about asians portrayed through the media. That wasn't too bad also. She showed soem itnersting movies during class that helped. Her tests were pretty easy if u wnet to calss and were there for the review. She basically told you what was ont he test and what to study for. Her fianl was a bit harder, it was more concentrated on the readings. Yet overall a great teacher. i would take her again and am thinking of taking another class that she teaches.

Prof Le is very biased and single minded of other ethnic students when she lectures, has class discussion, and even gives her exams. If you are not Vietmanese I do not recommend taking her class because she makes a lot of assumptions that you already know Vietmanese background and she caters much of her class towards the students who are Vietmanese American. She doesn't necessarily lecture with facts but with a lot of historical assumptions and she makes the students come to their own conclusion, whether it be right or wrong. Her exams are also biased because she asks a hypothetical question and you basically have to answer the essay question with the answer she wants or else you only get half credit for it.
I'm an Asian American Studies major and I would highly recommend some other professor because I know there are good Asian American professors at State.

I took Mai Nhung Le's Asian American Cultures last semester, Spring 1999, to fulfull a GE requirement thinking that it would be easy for me as an Asian American to take a course with subject that is familiar, so to speak. Taking Asian American Cultures with Professor Le is one of the best moves I've made in my college career. I am so glad I did! I learned so much about my culture that I didn't know but should have and found everything so interesting. Professor Le's intriguing lectures, materials, and videos had me constantly saying to myself about my own culture "oh, how interesting!" I can't describe exactly how enjoyable she made the class because I truly had a blast! Not only did I learn, but I had fun, which unfortunately isn't the case in many of the classes I've taken. Professor Le cares about her students and has a great knowledge of the topic that inspires me to learn more my own culture and hopefully one day be able to give back to the community. SFSU is lucky to have her as an instructor and I am lucky I was her student.

Professor Le is a good instructor although she could be somewhat strict at times. The class is very informative and it does what it's supposed to; it teaches me about the Asian American Culture. The assignments for the class aren't too bad. She never assigns too much at once and the class moves in a nice pace. She could be a little more clear though when explaining, whether it be about assignments or lecture. But she is generally organized, shows enthusiasm and has a good handle on the subject. Aside from some small assignments, there is one group presentation, a midterm and a final. The group presentation as well as the midterm weren't too bad. The midterm was a lot shorter than I expected. Overall, she is a good instructor and I would recommend her.

Her class material was very informative though her preparation could have been a tad better. The work wasn't too much and it was even a bit enjoyable to complete a few of them. Some of them helped me learn about my family and overall she had a good understanding of her subject.

i got her class in the fall of 97. That was my first yr in college and all of the sudden i took her class to fulfill my GE. However, i regreted.....actually she is an ok teacher and i think she is the most prettiest teacher i have ever seen in sfsu. (actually she looks ok) Her teaching method sucks, but her material is good. I hate the thing that she kept telling us to take tedious notes and those notes are not that helpful for the test. Not because the notes were boring (indeed they were), but they were too much and difficult to look for the right answers from. well u need to prepare a 15 pages term paper to finish her course. Other than that, she is ok.

I'm not sure if she still teaches at SFSU, but I really enjoyed being in her class. She makes sure she does not bore you to death by taking absurd notes, but she does foster a desire to those in her class to become ETHS majors or minors. She has a nice subtle Vietnames accent which is also cool to listen to and she is a very personable person. She's cool and up-to-date and she grasps a great amount of the field. The only problem was that there was way too much group projects, such as picking a certain ethnic group and discuss the culture, etc. Overall, I would recommend anyone to take her and it's easy too!
