I liked this class and found it to be very interesting. We had to attend three school plays and two assigned off campus plays about which you had to write a one page paper and attach your ticket stub. The classes were interesting and the tests were easy. You could even get out of the last one by seeing an extra play. The only thing is to do ok on the tests you had to attend every lecture because the test is right from these. As for Lynbarbara.....she can be mean, mean, mean! Don't EVEN ask her a question unless you are 100% sure she hasn't talked about it already. She WILL ream you a new one in front of the whole class. And if you are late don't dare walk in front of her, go through the back door, she'll let you have it for walking onto her stage.

I LOVED this class. Lynbarbara is a great teacher and a wonderful friend. She was alwayz there when I needed her and was very devoted to her students. I highly recommend her. But if u can't take Actor's critics.... don't bother. U'll think she's out to get u.

Lynbarbara Mahlar was by far not an impressive instructor. Her lectures seemed unfocused and unprepared as if she woke up one morning and decided to teach a class. Her exams were based on questions written by students. Tests did not make you think and apply information but rather made you regurgitate meaningless and unmemorable answers. I do not recomend this instructor unless you are looking for lectures and tests with no substance.

Prof. Mahler was a creative, wonderful teacher. Only comment I have is that unfortunately too much material from one of her lectures was put in the final quiz, throwing grades really off last semester in art and imagination. If you do read this, Ms. Mahler, maybe you can change that aspect that seemed unfair.

This course was just a complete waste of time. I knowledge and understanding of theater is basically exactly the same as before I took the class. The good times are when there are guest speakers, which comprise at least a third of the total class time over the semester. Mahler's lectures seemed completely half-hazzard, unfocused, non-informative, and she rarely seemed to have a lesson plan of any kind. Over all, the course is very easy, there are only a few easy tests. Ironically, she compiles questions written by the students for the exams, the exams are all scantron, and her TA does all the grading. Combined with the round-about lectures, one must wonder how much time is spent outside of class preparing, evaluating, etc. She doesn't seem to take much interest in her students learning. In fact, if you want your scantron back from an exam to see where you need to improve you can forget about it -- no matter how politely and how many times you ask.
Nevertheless, it's an easy course provided you go to every class.

Firstly, let me say what a joy it was to attend class every single Wednesday night, knowing that, at worst, I'd have to watch "The dream Ballet" from "Oklahoma." The class itself is not hard at all, provided you show up and do the reading. The reader is not that long, and the articles are interesting, if a little dated. The tests are multiple choice, and you have to hand in 5 quiz questions one weekbefore the quiz. Discussion happens, but not too much as time wears on. I really don't have many complaints, except that every time I approached Dr. Mahler to ask a question (i.e. as I am handing in the final quiz, she has made no announcement about posting grades), she was the biggest ice cube. I don't know how else to describe it. Oh, yes I do: I was wasting her time. THAT is what she communicated very effectively. She was just this side of haughty. Now, lest you think I am one of those people who cannot STOP asking questions...I think I asked about 4 all seester long. Class was never cancelled. She was sick once, and let us go early. I think she's one of those profs who doesn't think that students are a viable use of her time anymore. Fun class, though.
