He is not a good teacher, but he is awesome in grading.

do you want an A for BA 412?? take it with him then. He makes the course become very easy. The questions for your project is basically the same for the exam, and the project is very easy (simple & straightforward).

Strongly recommend

I strongly recommend this teacher. This is a pretty easy teacher as long as you do the homework. Exams are usually 1-2 pages front and back. Exam questions come directly from lecture discussions and homework. All exams are open book and notes! 5-10% of each exam requires to fill in answers directly from homework assignments (what he calls projects) so make sure you do it correctly. Even if you can't don't finish the homework, classmates that are willing to share their homework and notes are your biggest allies. however each student must have their own copies, no trading papers during tests are allowed, just to clarify. He tends to act a little jumpy and often studders or backtracks his words so it is often difficult to understand his syntax. Don't expect him to answer your questions during class time. He will either accusingly ask you if you read the book , tell you he's not "there yet," or respond with some nonsense that does not answer your question, although he thinks he has been quite clear. You're better off asking another student or reading the book in that case. The material, however, is pretty clear and objectives pretty simple as long as you have a clear understanding of grade school algebra and ms excel.

Very easy, but rude.

This professor made his class REALLY easy, almost to the point of being a joke. His quizzes were based entirely on the homework and lectures AND were open note. It would be impossible to fail this class unless you just do not show up. The major problem I had was with his attitude. He tends to teach the class as if we are two-year olds that are unable to grasp difficult concepts. I believe that if his students move forward from this class they will be ill prepared. Everything will be fine unless you ask him a question he feels he has already covered and then you will run into a brick wall. His arrogance definitely affects his attitude about teaching.

Real World Class Projects

There are 3 exams + final and 8 projects using Excel and Word. Steve grades on a point system, so if you show up for class, do the readings and work on your projects then you should have no problem passing his class. He was always in his office during office hours and that helped when I was having problems with the projects. The projects are due at exam time, so you have weeks to work on them. Do not wait till the last minute because you will not remember the lectures.

A teacher I'd take again in the future

Steve's class was one of the better classes I've taken in a long time. All his quizzes are open book and open notes, including the final. The problems on these tests are just like the ones discussed in class and in the homework too so it's almost too easy. The bad thing is that if you take it during the once-a-week evening class, you may be prone to fall asleep. His lectures get a little boring and seem to drag on forever, especially if you already know a thing or two about probability, stats, and basic algebra. Overall, not a difficult class at all and I'd even try to get his class again in the future!

Steve is the Man!!!!

I entered this class somewhat afraid of what to expect. I had heard that Ba 110 was very difficult and time consuming. I am a terrrible math student so needless to say I was shaking in my boots. However to my surprise I ended up with one of the best math classes I have ever had. Steve is very nice and preety laid back, from the start he goes very slowly sometimes too slow, but none the less you wont have to struggle to follow his lectures they are very slow. Each homework assignment is not long at all and is exactly like the questions that you will see on the quizzes. There are 5 quizzes, 15 homeworks and a final..pretty fair for a math class huh? Teh quizzes are only 1 to 3 questions and the final was only 5 questions long. Steve is truly passionate about math and is very avaliable for tutoring...Oh yeah the quizzes and finals are OPEN BOOK..OPEN NOTE!!!!!!tHATS RIGHT YOU HEARD CORRECTLY...The only bad part about steves class is that his public speaking skills are not up to par so that makes for a preety boring lecture but its math what can you expect...p.s. go to every class and take really good notes to use on the test...this class is blessing in disguise...

A down-to-earth approach to BA412

Although this was Steve's first semester @SFSU, he's got a winning attitude. BA412 is not the easiest course, but Steve's format made it almost fun (as these things go...) Material was covered in class, then we were given an example of what to do for the project. Projects were very real world, and I the knowledge I gained about Excel was useful right away at work. There weren't any in class exams, although we were left to our own devices on a couple of projects, making them much like take-home exams.

Good Instructor for the Math Challenged!

If you dread taking a math class then you should take this one. This was Steve's first time teaching it and that showed alittle, but he knows his subject matter. He goes slow enough so everyone has the chance to understand the materials. He grades on a point system with weekly homework (2-3 problems)worth 10-15 pts each, 5 quizes worth 30 pts each, and a final worth 100 pts. He's a fair grader and will give you points for attempting the problems. The nice thing is that he is available a hour before class for any questions regarding the assignments. He won't work the problem for you or give you the answer but he will point you in the right direction. If you catch on fast or know the material you be bored or frustrated with the slow pace of his teaching style. When I take BA 412 I plan on taking Steve's class.
