Too bad...she's no longer...

Oh my GOD (some of you really didn't get it)!!! I totally thought she was one of the (few) great teachers at SFSU. She was really fair and made a genuine effort to create an atmosphere that we were all on a level playing ground. Everything was graded blindly. She made her lectures interesting by not repeating verbatum what was in the text. I liked the projects and thought that they made for a well-rounded learning. Give her a break...I took her last Spring and she was hardly ever late. She only cancelled her office hours once, but never durring a critical time when it was necessary. She did make it VERY clear at the beginning of the semester that a good grasp of the english language was a MUST and even gave a writing test the first day...if you were unclear or had poor usage, she recommended that you not take her class. This course required A LOT of writing and communicating, so if you sucked at it, that reflected on your grade. And HELLO, if class participation is considered in your grade (as in many courses)...GO TO CLASS! (It's that easy!) I did not find her moody, tempermental, or emotional...In fact I thought I related to her a lot.

Anyhow, too bad, because at the end of last semester (5/02), she said she would no longer teach at SFSU. (Ijust wanted to clarify some things and ensure that her GPA went up)

Should Be One of the Finest and Easiest Prof For Bus 682

Syllabus: Class Participation 20% Written Case Studies (2) 10% Midterm 20% Seminar Presentation 15% Group Project & Presentation 15% Final 20%

Class Participation is an easy grade as long as Marquiss remembers your name.

Case Studies are from the book, just read a case study that she assign & answer her questions accordly. Remember to answer EVERY question (and EVERY detail) for each case question. No need to worry too much on the format or grammer; as long as you answer the questions correctly.

The midterm was easy, but you'll be writting A LOT!! Everything from her midterm is based on her lectures, so no need to study off the textbook. Half of exams is MC (and must explain why you choose that answer) and the rest is a case scenerio similar to her class lectures.

Seminar Presenation is quite easy, except finding a topic (and must be from the WSJ) relating to business ethics. It's just like the presentations done in BUS 360. Since there are 50 students in this class, it took almost 1/3 of the entire class semester to go through all presentations. Even though most of the presentation was boring, at least it meant less class lectures!!!

Group Project and Presentation was alright, as long as you have good group member who don't slack off. You'll have to write a 10 page report and present in-class for 20 minutes as a group.

Final is just like the midterm, only shorter and maybe just as easy.

Overall, Marquiss is a good teacher to take, but I hear that Zahar is so much easier. I could really care less about this course because business ethics and environment is such a dry boring topic. Other reviewers say that she is bias, maybe it's true, but she's nice and doesn't look down upon anyone. Plus, she let's the class go 30 minutes early. =)

A very high quality teacher

I can't say enough good things about Professor Marquiss. She has a talent for organizing and presenting lecture material in a very logical, practical, and understandable way. She cuts right through to the heart of the matter in looking at analytical models.

She is proof that there is no need to put students through a stressful, tough experience in order to learn. I really appreciated the comfortable environment Prof Marquiss created for discussion and debate over case studies. I came away feeling built up and more confident in my group discussion skills instead of torn to shreds as has been my experience with certain other teachers. I have to agree with the other reviewers. Make life easier on yourself--Prof Marquiss is the one to take for BUS 682. She is the best teacher I have come across in the Bus Dept so far.

A HIDDEN GEM yet to be discovered!

Professor Karen Marquiss is the most down to earth person you will ever encounter in your college years. She is blessed with the most pleasing personality which makes everyone love her. I expected Business 682 to be a tough class since it is an upper division class, but with Prof. Marquiss you are in for an stressfree time while getting the most out of the subject. I loved her examples and how she relates each one to a topic we discussed in class. There are 2 case studies that you have to read and write a paper about, but just be straightforward and you will get a high grade. There is one presentation but it's only 5 minutes (i wish it was more than that since i really enjoyed presenting in her class). The midterm is common sense, every topic is something that you have encountered before in real life or at least seen on T.V.. If you can't relate to any of it.......you must have been hiding under a rock for many years!!!! Take my advice and take this teacher, she is the best and probably the hidden gem in the business department. Trust me, I bet my life on it.

Karen Marquiss the Instructor to take for BUS 682!!!

When I first took Bus 682 I thought I was going to be in for a tough and challenging course and that it was but fortunately Prof. Marquiss made it a lot less stressful. I really like how Professor Marquiss structures her lectures as well as her personality. Even though she has not taught for about maybe 7 years at SFSU her teaching ability was still up to par with the rest of the faculty in the business school, if not better. Anyone who is taking BUS 682 and worrying about who to take need not to search any further, Professor Marquiss is the instructor to take if you want a instructor who is fair!!!
