Prof. Martin is a very lenient teacher, who lets you turn in essays late. You can revise your essays and there are no test or exams. There is an intro paper (not graded), 4 essays (3-5 pages), and a Jepet final (ex. credit). Martin is a wonderful professor, take him if you can.

Michael Martin is one of the best English teachers I have ever had. He is very respectable and he certainly knows what students need and how students feel. He is very good at encourage students, which I consider is a point that most professors lack today. I have no pressures or concerns of taking his class. And, I did learn a lot!!!

I had him last semester. And i enjoyed his class very much. he gave me a new way of looking at writing, and helped improve my writing all togehter. He is very flexible on when to turn in papers, very laid back, understands that we all have busy lives, and genuinely wants people to learn and improve.
I hope i can take him again, if there are any courses availble that would fit my Minor. I definately recommend him to all who want to improve their writing as wll as do so with a cool teacher who cares about the students. He in my mind is the epitome of how many teachers in the school should model their teachings after.

I really think Mr. Martin is a neat guy, but for some reason the other people in the class I was in didn't respond to him. We had a kind of rough semester, because most poeople just sat there stupidly; maybe it was too early in the morning. He assigns books that I think may seem dated and out of touch with the new generation of kids, who are pretty apathetic and anti-history. He is a fair grader though, and takes lots of time for help on papers, and took time to prepare and give hints on the dreaded JEPET (I passed!). Laid back, hippy teaching style, friendly, available. I recommend him :)

Mr. Martin was such a great teacher! He's very understanding and really wants his students to benefit from his class. His class is very informative as well as laid back. I just took his class spring semester 2002 and most of the papers you do are revisable. As long as you make an effort, I assure you that you will do well in his class.

You couldn't ask for a better English teacher. Michael is very understanding and actually wants his students to enjoy writing and do well at it. He is unlike any other English teacher I've ever had. He teaches you to write in your own style (of sorts). Nearly all of your work is "revisable." Basically you can get an A if you really want one. I highly recommend this teacher!

Prof. Martin is the best teacher for a class like this. He is very understanding and open to different styles of writing and will allow you to find your own style. He won't dictate to you how you should write your papers but he'll give you some guidelines so you're not completely lost. He lets you think for yourself without being judgmental. He makes writing essays a less intimidating task.

This professor is very understanding and helps you when you need it. We write essays and he types up detailed responses to each of your essays. Overall, we learned a lot from him, and I think he's great.

Professor Martin helped me a lot. He understood my problems and assisted me in fixing it. He wanted the class to enjoy writing, and not be burdened by it. In our class, he didn't mind if you turned in your work late as long as you tell me beforehand. If you make a point to go see him, he will work with you to better your writing skills. He also gives very good feedback and assign reasonable reading.

I felt grateful to have Michael as an English teacher because he took my more poetic style of writing, and showed me how to use that with the English styles that he was required to teach. Unlike other teachers I have had, he did not tell me to change my writing and "do it like this." Instead, he helped me learn the 'proper' English writing style while still keeping my individualism and my own interpretations and poetic writing style prominent. His public speaking skills take some getting used to, but if you listen more to what he's saying rather than how it is coming out, you'll find him an interesting person who is easy to talk to.

Michael Martin is pretty lay-back and his lectures have a conversational quality to them. Sometimes, they seemed a little too conversational. He doesn't articulate his thoughts very clearly in speech, but his corrections and in-depth comments on returned papers is very helpful. I didn't get too much out of sitting in class, but I did notice an improvement in my writing because of his written comments. Not the best lecturer, but a decent teacher and cool guy overall.
